My son Chris in Australia gave me this link not sure if it works if you are not a Facebook user. I was appalled to read what happened to Fred's house, garden and workshops after he died in 2004. It was left derelict and empty for four years, vandalised and looted. It was bought in 2008 and the owner restored it and opened it as a heritage centre. This is now closing and they will auction everything in 2018. A sad end. https://www.facebook.com/groups/freddibnahtours/permalink/10155000136338873/ |

Like Max this fills me with great sadness. Fred's exploits and craftsmanship must not be forgotten. He rebuild steam boilers from scratch for goodness sake! It would be a poor show to lose this heritage centre, perhaps the local Council could step in to save it? Having said that local Council's seem more interested in getting all their benefit forms translated into umpteen languages.............. Fred was a straight talking northern lad who did not call a spade a shovel even if he hailed from the wrong side of the Pennines, my dad was a White Rose man you see.
