Sunday 5th June is the date for the Club Warbird fly in, its the nearest weekend Sunday we can get to D Day. This is your opportunity to bring along your scale warbird or contemporary scale model and enjoy a DIY barbecue and a fly to remember the 6th June 1944. There is no competitive element to the event, just fly for fun. The Club charcoal grill will be going to cook your favorite treats and it all gets under way at 13:00. You can of course bring along your sports models as well if you must...... (Special point of silly anoraky [is that a word?] - only Hurricane models with the correct exhaust stubs will be allowed to participate, that is 3 on each side, not 6 )

Well despite the recent rain the field is doing well and should be AOK for the D Day warbird gathering. I drove across this morning and did not even leave wheel tracks. The forecast for Sunday is currently sun with winds around 9mph down the runway. Not feeling too complacent though as the forecast yesterday showed scattered clouds and showers for Sunday. Our grill will be going, using locally produced charcoal, so bring your favorite BBQ food. It is DIY so bring plates, eating irons, etc. I think its called an American Supper, ours will be late English lunch..... Bring the chairs Mike if you have room, there are never enough. |

Good turn out despite the wind. Many flew but many also stayed on the ground. I waited until later in the day but my Hurricane Laser would just not run past the prime. Fuel system to check out. |

WW2 aircraft I saw flying were Hurricane/Ian Dinan, Spitfire/Stuart willis, Me110/John Prior and Fw190/me. There may have been others as I didn't arrive until later. |

Did Ian D's bf 109 take to the skys as well? Taken engine and fuel system out of the Hurricane and stripprd down the carb (old ST variety). Found some muck in the narrow slot of the carb, re assembled and will test later today. |

Fuel system in perfect condition and a test this morning confirms a sweet running Laser 90. The ST carb on the early Lasers is prone to small items of debris blocking the tiny slot on the spraybar. So if your early Laser is not running sweetly get a magnifying glass out and check the spraybar slot. |

Sadly the my BF109 did not fly due to engine bolts that became loose. However the Hurricane (ex Chris Wise---thanks Chris) flew brilliantly, heavy landing though and broke the 3 blade prop...All repaired now though.
