So, I'm looking to upgrade my rig. I am starting to experience lag on some of my favorite games, and I am way too impatient to be dealing with that bullshit!

I compare prices of various parts and what not, but more or less there isn't a computer I'm willing to buy that will do what I need it to. I'm thinking I just need to upgrade my graphics card but I don't wanna pay a ton of money to do it.

The smartest option would be to do a dual card set up, methinks. I have no idea if my motherboard will even support that, so I'd be looking at getting a new one + 2 cards. From the parts I'm looking at that's gonna cost like 600 bucks, and at that point may as well throw in a full size tower and keep going crazy with it...

Wondering if any of you guys (laser :P) knows of a couple different/better options out there? I'm not really in a hurry to do it...but soon would be nice.

Btw, I have a GeForce GTX650 Ti. Not the boost one, the first Ti. I'm trying to hit 100 fps on mmo's/large multiplayer games...lol.

The hell're you asking me for?!

...how much RAM do you have? I've found that having a big ol' pile of memory is sometimes even more important than your graphics card, especially if you're like me and tend to run, like, a dozen applications all at once. Bumping up from 8 to 16 gigs'll cost you, like...forty bucks, and may help solve a good chunk of your lag problems without having to shell out a giant pile of loot.

HINT: Replace ALL of your memory, don't just add new memory, and get it all from the same manufacturer, in the same-size sticks if possible. Inconsistent RAM is one of the better ways I know of to land yourself with a bad case of the gremlins.

And yeah...if you're buying a new motherboard and two new graphics cards, at that point you're going to need a new power supply as well, unless your old/current one is more baller than usual for a prebuilt computer. And at that point about the only things you haven't bought are the case and the CPU. And the RAM, but I covered that.

Hmm, I didn't consider the ram. It came with 16 so I would go up to 32, which it does support.

I had to upgrade my psu when I got the graphics card, so its at 750W now.

I dunno, right now I'm focused on upgrading my suspension for my truck. Maybe I'll do the ram thing and see where that gets me.

AMD are great bang for buck, usually slightly worse (2-5 fps) than the equivalent Nvidia card for a cheaper price.

What motherboard do you have?

Going for an R9 270X or GTX 760 would be a great boost from a 650 Ti.

16GB of RAM is more than enough for gaming, any more and it'll be wasted.

Lol, I forgot all about this thread...

I didn't know that though. I was starting to think that AMD was better than Nvidia, just not as popular. I heard some stuff about their features that were supposed to be a nice visual touch but I don't remember wtf any of it is called.

Unfortunately, I'm no longer looking at upgrading my computer lol. It runs just fine. If a game demands more than what my current card can handle then I will just lower the settings...I can't afford to blow money on something like a pc lol

And as far as the motherboard goes, I don't remember. I might be able to find it in a system hardware info thingermajig but other than that, It was just whatever asus put in the stupid thing.

You were maybe thinking of AMD's Mantle tech? (™)

Aha, yeah, a PC can be a big money sink if you don't restrain yourself...
