No wonder you're so jaded on comic characters.

I'm not jaded. The films are the only thing keeping these characters relevant right now. Marvel was on the verge of bankruptcy before the MCU lol.

That being said, DC/Warner Bros. are stumbling around playing catch up as usual lol. They should just stick to TV shows.

If you only watch the movies you wouldn't know if you were jaded or not...

Read the books. It will change your list I bet.

If you took 10% of the time you spent scouring the internet for memes and rare videos you could catch up on everything in like 3 days.

I like films.

lol You read and write here so much. That just doesn't make sense. I assumed you read a lot.

Movies are watered down versions of the books dumbed down for teens. IJS

I read real books.

I studied film in university though. English Literature, History and Film Studies lol.

There are plenty of great films based on books. Some are even damn near 100% faithful adaptations. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas comes to mind.

I dunno but it seems like you're more jaded about the whole thing than I am. How can I be jaded about something I don't even read lol. I keep up on the happenings by researching the Wiki sites when I feel like it but I just happen to prefer the film and TV settings. The sheer unprecedented magnitude of what Disney/Marvel has accomplished with the MCU is actually amazing as fuck though. And the fact remains that from a financial standpoint, the movies are far more important than the comics at this point. The comics are only still around because the movies saved the company from going bankrupt.

Is there a problem with adapting the source material (comics) into a feature film or TV show? Marvel MCU isn't Marvel 616, but that doesn't mean it's worse. It's its own setting and for the most part it's pretty god damn brilliant.

The original Spider-Man Trilogy was what rekindled my interest in the characters though. Sam Raimi did an amazing job on the first two films (third was botched by studio interference, but it's not like the same thing doesn't happen to books via publisher interference). Fox has generally done well with the X-Men franchise. The new Fantastic Four is going to be absolute shit though. Hopefully it bombs terribly, which might be the push Fox needs to go the same route as Sony and partner with Disney/Marvel. That would put every Marvel property (except for Namor, lol, Universal Studios) back with Marvel. But even without FF and X-Men, they've built something incredible that in every way rivals (if not exceeds) the source material.

Also I guess I need to point out that films are also written first? LOL. Screenplays yo. Some are adapted from novels, some are their own thing, some are good, some are great, some are trash. Same as books.

I'm not the one not making sense here. Is this one of those purist things again? Like those Youtube commenters who argue over dubs vs subs in animu? On that note, I tend to prefer dubs too because I'm not fluent in Jappo-knees. Unless the story is actually set in Japan (like with the Yakuza games or whatever) dubs are preferable, and even then I'd rather watch it in English because English > Japanese anyway. And really there is nothing to complain about regarding the English dubbing these days anyway. It's always on par with the original Japanese now and in some cases it's flat out better.

Anyway that's my explanation on the issue. If you still don't like it well I guess that's okay lol. I'm not gonna start reading comics though.

I'm speaking specifically about Comic movies. You're going in general.

I'm not going to argue that movies are more profitable than books either.

Back to what I did say though: The stories in the books are better than the movies. The movies take the stories from the books and water them down/dumb them down for people that can't read.

The other 87 paragraphs you wrote are about things I didn't even hint at so...

And you did state in pretty clear terms that you feel all film adaptations of books are inferior. Comics are essentially a halfway point between films and books. And there are plenty of shitty comic storylines out there. I used to read Spider-Man as a kid. I stopped when they came up with that horseshit clone saga. Even as a 12-year-old I could understand how fucking stupid that was lol. In fact comics are chock full of awful writing. They aren't immune to failure just the same as films aren't.

The films aren't better or worse. They're different. It's like comparing a green apple to a red apple. Maybe I like red apples more than green apples. Doesn't mean green apples are bad.

Frank Miller is one of the best comic writers ever. The All Star Batman is a bad example of his work though.

Your views aren't objective though since you have a preconceived notion that the comics are better by default. I know the comic storylines too. I get the summary versions from the Wiki site.

And frankly what they're doing right now with Spider-Man, Captain America and Thor is fucking pitiful lol. They're hopping on the "diversity for the sake of diversity" bandwagon to appease the feminazi tumblerfaggot social justice warriors. Next thing you know, Anita Sarkeesian is going to be writing for them LOL.

Which is my point. Comics aren't infallible. Good writers can make terrible mistakes and this applies to any medium.

I agree with that. I think Marvel's line up is shit at the moment tbh. Outside of Hawkeye I don't read Marvel.

It's not preconceived, in general comic storylines are much better than the movies they put out. A summary doesn't really do it justice either.

That's a matter of personal opinion though. The MCU doesn't have all of the characters (missing key components from X-Men and Fantastic Four) but in spite of that they've crafted something that is unprecedented in film. The new deal they reached with Sony to get Spider-Man back into it is only going to make it better.
