Cero Variations

The practitioner fires a powerful blast of concentrated spiritual energy at the target. While in most cases it is fired from the mouth, some Arrancar and Visored can fire Cero from their hands, fingers, and other parts of their bodies. This often requires the user to take on a specific pose, with Coyote Starrk being the only exception.

The power, force, speed, and blast area of the Cero is dependent on the strength, spiritual power, and sometimes skill of the user (i.e., the stronger the user, the stronger the attack), and there are some Arrancar who have come up with their own variation of Cero. The charging and firing time for Cero varies greatly, from charging relatively fast to firing it to instantaneously firing one without much charging. Despite the damage it can cause at long range distances, Love Aikawa states the damage which a Cero causes as an explosion is more dangerous when used at close range.

  • B-Ranked → Cero Córnea → Tesra fires a small but powerful Cero from the pupil of his eye. The blast is powerful enough to destroy boulders.

  • B-Ranked → Mashiro Super Cero → Mashiro can kick the air in the direction of her target, thus firing a fast, wide, lime-green Cero which follows the arc-shaped path made by her foot.

  • A-Ranked → La Mirada → While in his Resurrección, Tōsen can charge two circular Cero in front of each of his large, bug-like eyes. When fully charged, the two Cero will fuse together in the middle before firing as a single, highly destructive blast.

  • A-Ranked → Cero Doble → After absorbing an incoming Cero by swallowing it, Nelliel fires one of her own while returning the previous one, thus creating a potent Cero Doble. While her child form severely limits her Arrancar powers, she is still powerful enough to absorb and redirect a Cero blast from a Privaron Espada-class Arrancar in his released form, though the effort greatly tires her. In her original form, the force of the Cero Doble is augmented greatly, since Nelliel rebounds the attack while blending it with her own Cero, which drastically increases its power.

  • A-Ranked → Cero Oscuras → The Cero Oscuras is far more powerful than an average Cero, with a vast range and massive attack power. It shattered Ichigo Kurosaki's entire Hollow mask, critically injuring him in the process, and destroyed half of the dome over Las Noches. Though the only Espada who has utilized this technique so far, Ulquiorra told Ichigo "This is the power of a released Espada, the black Cero" and referred to it as "our Cero".

  • S-Ranked → Cero Metralleta → Holding out his right pistol, Starrk charges multiple Cero around its barrel simultaneously before firing a barrage of them at his opponent. The Cero continue to fire from these points repeatedly. While firing, Starrk can adjust his aim to redirect the attack.

  • S-Ranked → Gran Rey Cero → By mixing their own blood with a Cero, an Espada can fire a Cero with much greater attack power and speed, in addition to having a change of color unique to them. It is many times more powerful than a normal Cero, disturbing the fabric of space as it travels. Upon release, it spins like a razor as it compresses and decompresses due to the sheer speed and raw power. Ulquiorra Cifer states using a Gran Rey Cero is one of two things forbidden while inside Las Noches, for it is so overwhelming it could destroy the fortress.

  • S-Ranked → Cero Sincrético → Pesche and Dondochakka charge their Cero simultaneously and combine them, forming a large, swirling sphere, before firing the combined Cero as a multicolored beam. Although it does not work on him, Szayelaporro Granz states it is a "marvelous technique" and admits he would have been defeated if Pesche and Dondochakka had used it before he had time to analyze their Reiatsu. Its use greatly drains Pesche and Dondochakka, leaving both of them panting and ready to collapse after performing it. However, there is a small fissure between the two Cero, as they are not perfectly fused; by applying pressure on this fissure, the combined Cero will split apart and harmlessly pass around the target. Given the fact that two potentially dangerous characters can apply both the power of their Ceros into one massive attack, this is classed at a higher ranking than most.
