I'd like a documentary list. At the moment there is only the IMDB Documentary list which unfortunately has a few concert films in it.

Agreed. And their selection is most odd. Movies with extremely few votes gets added for starters(not that this is entirely a bad thing).

Another thing I would love is a list of best TV movies. IMDb discriminates against them to an extreme degree. Of course thet discriminate docs as well, but at least they got a list. There's absolotely nothing that seperates TV films from films released in the cinema! They may on average have lower budget, but what does that have to do with anything?

There are two big lists (1000), one from the Guardian one from Halliwell I would love to see added. My goal it to one day have finished all the big lists.

James Stewart movies is more of a 2.0 unofficial list though.

It would be amazing if they did a giant list with all the films from the directors on the TSP top 200. Yes, I'm an extreme completist, as well as an auteur whore.

I would like to see the Movieline 100 Foreign and English film lists. Those have a special place for me, because I've been chasing them for years.

I agree the Documentary category is lacking.

I think all the big Academy Awards categories should get their own list.

And I also really liked the idea of getting the NBR top 10's - though what I liked the most about it was getting a broader selection of older films, i.e. pre-50's.

I've been wanting a documentary list for a long time, mostly because I feel it's an area where I know nothing and a list would be a good place to start exploring this type of film.

But before iCM can add any documentary lists, someone else has to make one. Does anyone know of a good documentary list? I only know the "International Documentary Association's Top 25 and then the Oscar-list (and Ebert has criticized the Academy for their documentary nomination process).

At least this one could get some of the non-arthouse lovers interested:

CHUD's 100 movies that deserve more love (Sadly, the original link is no longer found at CHUD, but it was preserved on the listsofbests site. I remember there were some valid points made by the reviewers/writers for their picks. But it looks like you'll only have to come to your own conclusion nowdays)

Here's my spreadsheet where I'm keeping track of the lists which are not on iCM:

https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet...cHZtRTJCSFFRMWc

The ones that I'd most like to see added are:

Laputa's Top 150 Animation
BFI Screen Guides' 100 Documentary Films
mjf314's Top 250 most-acclaimed short films of all time (my list)
Golden Horse's 100 Greatest Chinese-Language Films
Film Heritage's Top 50 Czech/Slovak Films

I agree on the need for another documentary list. The IMDb one has some good inclusions but the overall quality is lacking.

I'd also like to see more country lists like Czech, Polish, an official Italian list, etc.

And of course, the Eclipse Series list.

I'd like to see more Academy Award lists, like the following:

Academy Award for Best Animated Feature
Academy Award for Best Animated Short
Academy Award for Best Short (Live-action)
And maybe a list for the best screenplay movies (original and adapted)

There is a Dutch movie site called Moviemeter, who have two top lists on there:

Moviemeter Top 250, which is based on votes by users (http://www.moviemeter.nl/list/)
Moviemeter Alternative Top 100, which is based on the Top 10's of users (http://www.moviemeter.nl/list/top_alt/)

This question goes backward instead of forward, but I am curious...

Did iCM only have the IMdB lists when it first launched? Did they add a few additional lists at a time, or were they there from the get-go?

I know last Christmas they added 100 Korean, 100 British, Academy Best Pic-Nom & Cinematography, Have You Seen.

I joined in November 2009 and it looks like the site began in May 2009 and started off with only the IMDB lists.

Check out this changelog for when lists were added: http://www.icheckmovies.com/about/changelog/

More than any other genre, I want a solid martial arts list. A list that doesn't include Kung Fu Panda.

I'd like more challenging lists but if new lists are based on imdb or the extremely boring academy awards then I couldn't care less.

A good martial arts or countries list would be nice. Or a decent documentaries list even though I probably won't use it myself.

I think the best one to add would be the Golden Horse list: http://1linereview.blogspot.com/2011/01/taipei-golden-horse-film-festival-100.html

The Asia Weekly Magazine list would also be a good one to add: http://www.chinesecinemas.org/chinacentury.html

If you haven't seen it yet, here's my spreadsheet where I'm keeping track of all the lists not on iCM:

True Films 200 Documentaries You Must See Before You Die

That list is terrible, if only because of his criteria which requires that a film be commercially available on DVD at reasonable prices. That, coupled with the fact that he doesn't seem to have any particularly interesting critical credentials, makes it just some random guy's favourite docs.

Plus, he has "must not preach to me." as a criterion and then lists What the Bleep Do We Know?, preachy pseudoscience bullshit made by a cult, as explaining science.

TSPDT's full list of recommended films (7900), perhaps broken down by decade or year.

It's here http://www.listsofbests.com/list/61264-tspdt-7900-essential-films

Those are two different lists. The first list is the starting list for the TSPDT1000, and is now up to 9600 films. http://www.theyshootpictures.com/StartingList.xls
A bunch of these films are not on imdb.

The other list is recommendations based on the TSPDT guys themselves.

Other than what PeacefulAnarchy mentions, that is the sort of thing that should be a personal list in iCM v. 2.0, imo. 9600 is a lot of movies.

It's on Lists of Bests as well, but with "only" 478 entries. Dunno if something's missing (and if so, what and where).

I think we should all PM ICM and ask for this list. Would be a magnificant inclusion. As we will be getting an Eclisse list soon I'm sure they will stack up with a few others as well.

What do you guys say?

Sounds like a good idea. Perhaps we could use the forum to try and suggest lists that prove to be popular on here? What's the best tactic for getting a list added to ICM?
