Results are HERE.

Rules:

1) Make a list of your favorite films on IMDB (Films include feature length films, short films, mini-series, whatever has an entry on IMDB, except TV series). If you absolutely cannot do this and need to make an ICM list, please export the list into an excel file and attach it to a post here with your submission.

2) Include your ICM handle in the name of your list (i.e. "Allisoncm's favorite films" or "Allisoncm's list of favorite movies" or "Allisoncm's list").

3) There is no minimum or maximum number of films, but each film on your list must only be listed once.

4) Submit a link to your IMDB list here, by February 14, 2012. If you specify (as of now, February 9th) that you are still editing your list, I will wait to count your list after the new deadline of February 19th. You may also continue to submit lists through February 19th. If you are done with your list, they will be counted as of February 15, 2012.

5) All films will be counted as RANKED, unless you specify UNRANKED with your submission.

Additional information:

Scoring will be as follows:
1000 points for #1, 999 for #2, in descending order. The 1000th film will receive 1 point. Any additional films will receive 0.5 points. Unranked lists will receive the average of the total number of points. Per the instructions above, all lists will be counted as ranked lists unless someone specifies in their submission post that their list is UNRANKED.

The high points are to prevent tiebreakers. There were a lot of ties on the directors list.

Note: IMDB lists will prevent spelling/sorting errors. A foreign film could potentially be listed 4 ways otherwise:
-Double vie de Veronique, la
-La Double vie de Veronique
-The Double Life of Veronique
-Double Life of Veronique, The

IMDB lists/Exported ICM lists must be submitted, because it will be too time-consuming otherwise.

Need volunteers for:
-Finding screenshots for films.
-Contacting ICM members to submit their lists (message me for details).

Screenshots:
If you would like, please feel free to submit screenshots of your favorite films.
-The width should be 500 pixels (to make everything uniform).
-Please only use the name of the movie for the file (no numbers before the movie title. You may write anything including numbers AFTER the title, however).
-Please no black lines on the edges. If it's a thin border, that's fine. If it's more that 5-10 pixels, it's too much.

The only downside if you submit pics before the deadline, the films may not make the final list. Only submit pics if you already have them and if it wouldn't be too much of a burden.

I cannot give credit to individual screenshots, but I can mention you if you contributed screenshots.

People who submitted screenshots so far:
bobbybrown
Crinderman
Ekaterina-
jvv
kingink
lampadatriste

People who volunteered to find screenshots in the future:
bobbybrown
Crinderman
kingink
lampadatriste

Potential benefits of this list:
-It could be listed on ICM. First unofficially. Then, perhaps officially?
-A Tripling the Canon list could be made. The original list will remain the same, but an additional list derived from the top list excluding the TSPDT and Doubling the Canon lists could be made. This could very well be interesting to not only us, but the outside world.

Participants - 66 (all lists are ranked unless otherwise specified):
Name / # of movies on the list (you can change this at any time) / link

I'll go along with whatever you suggest, but what about:

- films not listed on IMDb (ex False Aging (2008))
- films with several entries on IMDb (ex Fant˘mas (1913 - 1914))
- segments from omnibus films (ex "Toby Dammit" from Histoires extraordinaires (1968))

Does it have to be from imdb or are personal icm lists ok too.

If a film is good enough to make your top list then it would be nice if you could take the time to add it to imdb. Be sure to add a couple of links to public screenings and any other info you have and the process isn't too bad.

I'll submit a list but it won't be for some weeks. Considering how well our Directors list turned out I'm curious to see what surprises end upon this list.

I will definitely participate :) Will use January to try and get some rewatches done. Rewatched a couple favourites lately and found myself liking some more than I did the first time, and one movie in my top 100 was watched the other day and I didn't like it anywhere near as much.

I'm not sure how the personal ICM lists work. Right now let's just say IMDB lists. If I export the IMDB lists, it will all be uniform. If there's a way to export the ICM lists, I'll take a look at it.

Just one more important rule: please include your ICM/ICM Board handle in your IMDB list. It'll be easy to keep track of it, in case I have to have several tabs open at once. Chances are not everyone's ICM & IMDB name will be the same. Thanks!!!

Yes, 2/3 of these issues came up. And one of my favorite films is also not on IMDB. We've decided that we'll have to forget about the non-IMDB titles. Chances are people will not have seen the film anyway and you will probably be the only voter. This year at least. An alternate option is to submit the film to IMDB.

For movies like Lord of the Rings, Fantomas, The Godfather 1-3, if IMDB has several entries for it, it would be best if you list all three or 13 entries at IMDB. The good news is that there is not a limit for your favorite movies list, so at least you won't be limited in that manner and can list as many as you want.

For segments, if there is no way to differentiate between the segments, I'd say you'd have to list the whole omnibus film. Some films w/in omnibus films have their own entries. Also, perhaps you could create an IMDB listing for an individual segment if you like it that much. This really didn't come up in the pre-discussion, so I am open if anyone has any additional ideas!!!

You can 'export' the IMDb links from a list and use the other script to create an IMDb list and then export that list with all the data.

Run this in Firefox Scratchpad while viewing an ICM list to extract IMDb links:

Code:

var a = document.getElementById("itemListMovies");
var b = a.getElementsByClassName("optionIconMenu");

var out = "data:text/html;charset=utf-8,";

for(var i = 0; i < b.length; i++)
{
var c = b[i].getElementsByTagName("a")[5];

out += encodeURIComponent(c.getAttribute("href")) + "<br>";
}

location.href = out;

Run this to extract film title + year

Code:

var a = document.getElementById("itemListMovies");
var b = a.getElementsByClassName("listItem");

var out = "data:text/html;charset=utf-8,";

for(var i = 0; i < b.length; i++)
{
var c = b[i].getElementsByTagName("a")[1];
var d = b[i].getElementsByClassName("info")[0].innerHTML.match(/([0-9]{4})/)[1];

out += encodeURIComponent(c.innerHTML) + " " + d + "<br>";
}

location.href = out;

I could also integrate this to the ICM Enhanced script.

Yea I am a paid member and I extracted the list which contains the titles of the film and imdb links. I'll probably still have to end up using imdb to make this list but if you are curious attached is my list extracted from icm.

At first it was 250. But it seems like most members will be wanting to submit top 100 lists. Several will want to submit 250. The people who want to submit a top 500 or 1000 are few, but more experienced film watchers shouldn't be penalized and I'm sure their lists will be more interesting.

If we have a top 1000, we should allow as many films as possible. The great films everyone loves will rise to the top. I'm also concerned about having enough (interesting) films for a Tripling the Canon list.

OK, but what would be preferable to submit - a shorted list containing 250+ films (my favorites rated 9 and 10) or a longer list that contains almost 500 films (rated 8+)?

I think it would depend on the person.. I count high 7s as favourites, so my list will include 7s. My ratings are just a general guide for me and no-one ever understands them anyway :(

If you make a list 500 films long but only submit the 250 list, I still want to see your 500 list, for what it's worth. (I'd probably enjoy seeing a lot of other people's, as well...just singling you out because it looks like you're debating.)

The group is private, though (restricted?). Hopefully we can get a lot of people on there. I can extend the deadline, of course if it looks like we're getting a lot of interest and need more time.

Right, I was just asking what's better for allison and the great cause :) For me it would hardly make a difference if I submit the top favorites (9 and 10) or extended list of favorites (that includes 8's), it's just a matter of creating an extended list on IMDb so I'll probably submit a longer version then.

That's cool. I personally would prefer a longer list, so we get the most amount of movies as possible. It won't take me shorter or longer to sort, because it will be in excel and I'll just add up all the points.

My top 250 list: http://www.imdb.com/list/GXa0sgnCw_A/

I'll probably change it a couple of times before the deadline.

Before I forget to submit it again, here's my top 250 list. I take it I can still change things around until the deadline ?

http://www.imdb.com/list/Wci2wDqtKuM/
True. I will not be counting any votes before the deadline and you may edit the list as much as you want.

However, I might check to see which films are getting the most votes. Does anyone want to help me get pictures for this round?

Another option would be to submit screenshots along with your favorite films. If anyone has any, perhaps post them here? And if that film ends up being on the final list, I'll use the submitted screenshots. Not sure if I'll be able to find pics for 1000 films all at once!! :whistling:

For the sake of uniformity, let's say the shots should be 500 pixels wide. Does that sound good?

Any preference on what kind of screenshots ? Do they have to be spoilerfree ?

Not necessarily. I prefer screenshots w/no nudity, but practically anything is okay. If there is more than one screenshot to choose from, I might have to pick the interesting/better/most appropriate one. :ph43r:

It's so hard to get them in a pleasing order, but I'll try not to update it anymore, unless I watch a movie that instantly qualifies. Seeing how this will keep going until february, I will hopefully have gotten a better top 5 for 2011 for starters. Think I've only seen 2 films that qualified for my top 500 this far: Melancholia and The Tree of Life. Both towards the very bottom. Got really gigh hopes for The Artist and a few others. Anyways, here's my top 500:

I'm in, will probably only do 100 since I don't have the patience to do 250/500/1000.

Yes, it has your ICM username in the title. So that is perfect!!! :thumbsup:

Also feel free to edit it anytime until the deadline.

I'm in too, I didn't participate in the favorite directors (I don't come here regularly) but I will definitely submit a list, maybe next week.
