The following are a few random guidelines for roleplaying and behavior on the message boards. We are very permissive about styles of play and what goes on in the OOC board, just be careful not to stray into the areas I mention below. The guidelines below are pretty much in random order. --- To the extent that alignments exist in this game, they are simply guidelines, not rules. I prefer a gritty, realistic world composed of shades of gray. No one may accuse anyone of "not playing their character correctly." Keep edits to your posts on teh IC bored limited to correcting; grammar and splling, erors. When you edit a post, it is good form to include an OOC note at the bottom describing what you've changed (specifics aren't needed, just account for the editing). If somebody knows something about your plans or your resources, assume espionage, not DM malfeasance. Also recall that your lts. and advisors aren’t necessarily 100% loyal. It’s up to you to decide how much to trust them. Remember that everything is not always what it appears to be, including your allies. The only OOC comments allowed on the IC board are brief qualifications and descriptions. "The Prince of Avanil would like to announce his forthcoming wedding, set for the 15th of Anarire (ooc: turn 4, action 2)"...or... "Heathen wretch! Cease your foul actions lest I begin to pressure your nobles (ooc: contest law action)." Don't include OOC justifications for your actions in the IC board. That's like meta-gaming. All IC posts with OOC comments beyond what I described above will be deleted entirely. Imperial Laws are not game rules, they are the laws and societal norms of fictional Anuire. Just like real norms and laws, they can be broken. Many realms don't even abide by Imperial Law anymore for the simple reason that there is no one to enforce it. No discussion of real life politics or religion on the OOC board. Ascribing a certain player's actions to his/her nationality is particularly annoying to me, so don't do it. Don't weasel in little tidbits on political or social commentary into a larger post. Please remember that we’re all here to have fun… remember that if you feel compelled to carp on other players or the DM. If something is really bothering you that much, then I recommend that you take a step back, take a deep breath, and take a time out for a few minutes before posting on the board. Act as decently on the OOC board and in your OOC emails as you would in real life. If you have a problem or complaint with something that happened or with a DM ruling, talk to us in private; don’t go blabbing all over the message board. Complaints registered in a sarcastic, belligerent, or childish demeanor risk being dismissed out of hand. Also, this game’s main commandment is “Thou shall not whine.” Bellyaching over the outcome of actions, battles, or (even worse) how many magic items and XP you got for the last adventure is a bad, bad thing. Also… in the past some people have been offended by “frank” language in the OOC board, and so I engaged in some mild censorship. I will no longer be doing this. Just don’t direct such language at other people and don’t use four letter words before every single adjective and noun in a sentence. Such language only has an effect if it’s used sparingly, and an overly foul mouth will get you banned from the board. |
