FIRST EMPIRE DEATH TROOPERS

Boasting hundreds of thousands of indoctrinated and passionate Imperial youths within its ranks, the Black Legion started life as a military force committed to serving as the Emperor's most talented martial force while acting as a praetorian guard to the Executor Krieger. Its ideologies were set in stone then, marked by strong conceptions of an Imperialistic hard-right shunning notions of community and free thought outside of the Imperial agenda and worshipping the word of the Emperor as though it were gospel. It was not uncommon for Shadowtrooper legions to be seen marching in Imperial parades, protecting executive officials or even fielding a position on the battlefield, but in more modern circumstances the Black Legion has seen a polar shift in its structure and philosophy.

As a principle - the Black Legion now serves in a similar capacity to the 501st as an elite special forces unit capable of operating as a close protection force, an unstoppable force on the battlefield and as a state police unit. With the new battle armour of the Death Troopers to mark a change as well as a move towards a more tactical approach to combat, the Black Legion has evolved its ideology to encompass the role model of an 'unsung hero' whom despite being a silent and reserved trooper, is prepared to make whatever sacrifice is necessary to uphold the values of the First Empire and protect it from those who would dare contest it. Their will, however, remains as indomitable and ruthless as those of the heretical Avaran Empire but with an added conviction in Bishop's words on camaraderie and bonds in war - the words of a soldier and not a maniac with delusions of murderous grandeur. It is therefore of no surprise that the Black Legion prides itself on exhibiting the most disciplined, strategically sound and ruthless special forces trooper unquestionably outmatched by a Mandalorian Supercommando but not unable to challenge or go-to-toe with any force that would dare tempt death.

To oversee the training and command of the Black Legion former ISB Major Conrad De Villiers, a former interrogator and special surveillance operator, has been posted as the overseeing director of all training and mission operations. His reputation as a deadpan and seemingly expressionless officer sheds little light on his true nature as a hardened killer and a former torture expert and as such Conrad expects a similar degree of reserved lethality about his troopers - for them to concentrate on a calm and precise kill as opposed to a strict show of force.
