GENERAL OVERVIEW AND HISTORY
In a colloquial sense members of the Public Safety Service are often affectionately referred to as 'cops' and 'police' by the citizenry that they serve. The Public Safety Service have a rich history and are one of the oldest established government law enforcement branches. Initially the PSS was created to replace CorSec, however by the time of the Kaelvala Administration the PSS had been absorbed into CorSec to act as their 'uniformed law enforcement' arm. Due to a generalised role that ranges from keeping the peace to handing out traffic fines the PSS is the most numerous branch of CorSec.

Unlike many Galactic law-enforcement agencies members of the PSS receive inductions on par with most nations military forces. Officers within the PSS have many times been conscripted as reserve military forces during times of invasion and many PSS officers are retired CDF and SDS personnel and vice versa. While being a law enforcement agency members of the PSS are considered quite militarised and while often operating with smaller sidearms they often requisition military grade arms for specific operations.

Critics of the Kaelvala regime have decried the PSS as a means for the government to maintain a special militarised police force to ensure the governments longevity and overarching control into all affairs. Much of this criticism comes from Corellians exiled from the Sector (often wanted on treason charges) and unarguably this does bear a degree of truth; the PSS maintain their own armoured and air assault formations in addition to standard uniformed officers giving them the characteristics almost akin to a paramilitary. The majority of the motor pool of the PSS is drawn from mothballed CDF surplus.

The PSS are most infamous across the Galaxy for their role in the expulsion of non-ethnic Corellians from the Sector during a period known as the 'Sith Terror' when reportedly Sith sleeper cells had aggressively infiltrated the Core worlds. PSS Officers are generally well received however by the Corellian population and enjoy a high level of public approval and trust, their historical record however is marred with racial incidents entirely revolving around non-Corellian species. This reputation has improved greatly with the enactment of the 'Liberty Act' in the Corellian Parliament which granted rights to Corellia's non-Corellian minority; however on highly conservative planets such as Saccoria crimes against non-Corellians are largely ignored and sometimes encouraged by local law enforcement.

Public Safety Service commands are administered typically on a planet-level with a local CorSec Director to oversee a local 'precinct'. Precinct status is often applied to settled moons, space stations and non-planet planetoids. PSS precincts do not have a standardised format of organisation and face varying levels of mechanisation and self-sufficiency. More rural units are typically allocated more vehicles and are logistically self-sufficient while metropolitan units are able to rely on simplistic airspeeders, local storehouses and infastructure such as rocket-trams for transit and supply. In times of war the PSS is placed under control of the CDF and it's officers treated akin to regular infantry; this is expected by the men and women who sign up although it is a function only activated in the most dire situations relating specifically to homeland defence.

The relationship between the PSS and other Corellian military branches is considered both warm and contentious. Often PSS operations are hijacked by the military who supersede their authority, albeit local involved PSS assets are often always requisitioned under military command to assist them. This is often appreciated by the lower ranking masses who largely come from CDF veterans, although it often causes disagreements with the CorSec high brass who have had their authority diminished in favour of the SDS and CDF in recent years. PSS Officers also reportedly have a particular distaste for CorSec Internal Affairs and Intelligence, preferring to serve under military command. Regardless the loyalty of the agency is unquestionable as like any other Corellian service branch they undergo rigorous glitstim and Knowledge Bank-based loyalty screening.Posted Image
