Smooth Jazz Leaves The Radio; My Experience With The Jazz Genres

How do you guys really feel that a majority of radio stations are no longer playing smooth jazz music, even at night? I understand the changes in tastes, demographics, industry, etc, but it sounds kind of strange to phase the format out all together. I remember reading somewhere that CD 101.9 (from New York City) used to be in the smooth jazz format from 1988 until 2008, when they went over to rock (they are now sports radio, something my little brother prefers).

Speaking of CD 101.9, what made them stand out was the use of CDs, a format that came out in 1982 and was really expensive compared to the cheaper audio cassettes (at the time). My interest in the jazz genre grew when I was 17, when I had a driver who would put on 88.3 WBGO (which was from Newark, New Jersey) on those cold winter mornings-he was also the same person who exposed me to the Delaware-based 99.5 WJBR and the Philly-based 95.7 BEN FM (the latter two were only hearable when I was in the Cherry Hill area, be it in the morning and afternoon).

Do you guys have an interest in the jazz genres? Do you think smooth jazz needs to return to the radio? Was it kind of neat that CD 101.9 had the money for CD equipment back in the 80's and 90's? Please reply.
