The idea for this thread popped up when I saw the one on censorship of cartoons. This I think is going in an opposite direction of that one. While watching episodes of Fairly Oddparents in the past, I was surprised to hear the term "sexy" used. Yes, it's not as controversial as the word "sex" would be, but do you think using the word "sexy" in a cartoon crosses some boundaries? What do you guys think? |

To me, It depends mostly on the context and situation of when it's used. If the word is used in a light-hearted joke situation it isn't that big of a deal (which to my knowledge is how it was used in FOP), but to use it in a more serious situation with certain couples to express their feelings for one another is a little more awkward and controversial. Such examples would be Aang saying that to Katara while they're alone, as well as Ron and KP. If the word sexy was used there, it would make me think that something was about to go down if ya catch my drift. :D |

I agree as well. And I don't think the word would be used in an offending way if it appeared in a kid's show. I don't think Standards and Practices would even let it slide. However, I don't think the term was used in the 80's or even 90's for that matter, no matter what context the word was used. |

If I had kids I probably wouldn't want them watching shows that use those kind of words like that in inappropriate circumstances, but so far I really haven't noticed anything that's too provocative. But since you're right that older cartoons didn't even allow it at all a few years ago, it may only be a matter of time until we start seeing shows aimed at kids that have the kind of humor and inuendos of the simpsons and family guy. Personally, that's one thing I hope never happens. |

I think that " Sexy " in a cartoon or show Might be Used or maybe reput In the Adult shows, LIke you only here those things On Adult swim......well I dunno... I dont have alot of time to watch alot of cartoons right now but I dont think I have herd Sexy used in a cartoon on nick or anything like that .... Maybe the word Hott.....but all kids say it.....lol like Mommy that Boy is Hott....LOL..... but it would make the mom be like What did you just say......when in reality I do think that children and adults Useing the word hott is more reffured to as " A good looking person" or " He is so cute" ....... Society really Has changed over the years I really agree with that...... |

As far as I can remember, I haven't ever heard the sexy term used in anything on Nick or Disney, maybe on cartoon network, and more often than not I'll hear someone say that somebody is hot but the most basic one of all I hear is "that guy is so cute" or something like that. Unless the term sexy has a drastically changed meaning over the next several years, I hope kids cartoons won't be using stuff like that. |

The only time that I can recall it being used is in "Fairly OddParents." The character Wandisimo Magnifico (Remy Buxaplenty's fairy) referred to himself as being "sexy." It was the first time I've ever heard it used in a cartoon. I mean, considering today's standards, it's not a surprise to hear it. Then again, is it something you'd hear on a cartoon from the 80's? Just shows you how times have changed. |

Um, Fairly Oddparents wasn't the first show to use the word sexy. On Animaniacs, Yakko used that word too. Listen closely, I'll give you the link... warning, this is a ten minute video and the word is only used once in this videa (due to the fact there are other scenes): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMQ6jbriWO0 |
