This is a rarity ... but this show, having ran its first season now and awaiting its second, is actually quite good and better than anything on Nick & CN at the moment.

All the full episodes are on Youtube if you want to take a look and see how the cult following got started.

Wouldn't this show still be a bit girly for people like us to watch though?

Is this the show that is going to get us talking about cartoons again? :D

Seriously though, what made you hear about this show, Gavin? Interestingly enough, this series is a remake of an original version from the '80's.

It's a gigantic hit on Youtube and the Internet in general. You should at least see an episode or two (I'd suggest 7, 15, 16, 23, 25 as good examples) to see that there are actual characters and plot, even if most of it is plot of the day stuff.

Also Klay, the "brony" fans of the show would say you're not man enough to try it... lol.

Haha Klay...

If you tried the first episode, that isn't a good starting point - it does not represent what envelopes this show pushes. I would try the most recent episode (season 2 episode 3 - a mental breakdown episode) or one of the following from season 1:
-episode 7 - good overview of main characters
-episode 15 - Pinkie Pie madness
-episode 16 - funny, one of the best plots, excellent animation at end
-episode 20 - funny, major pop culture reference
-episode 23 - good background of main characters
-episode 25 - mental breakdown
-episode 26 - good overview of main characters, excellent music

So I did end up checking out a few episodes of this show (with a little help from Rob a.k.a. Staredcraft) and really, it's not bad. It's actually a very well produced, and thoughtfully put together show. Honestly, I'm not surprised it's been called the best animated series of the year. The animation style for the show is quite unique and I think it's one of the major drawing points to get people to watch. Plus how can you not like the mixing of characters within the show? Obviously when I first heard of this show, I had flashbacks to the previous creations of My Little Pony. And this show is completely different from those versions. Obviously it's a more modern show, but it's not totally a "girly" show, like you'd think it to be. The storylines are pretty darn creative, too, and the episodes are a full 22-minutes, not two stories in one episode like you see in Spongebob, etc.

Now for me, I have a long ways to go before I can consider myself to be a fan of the show, or a "Brony." I have yet to feel compelled to be drawn into the show and to get caught up on every episode. But you never know, that could change. At this time, I'm just a guy looking in from the outside. :P

This blasted show ... it's got me hooked now. :P

I think when I heard "Winter Wrap Up", that's when I couldn't...stop...watching. And now I'm pretty much caught up on all but a couple of the episodes.

Alright, so when Gavin first mentioned this show on the forum and that it was "My Little Pony", I thought there's no way I was getting myself hooked into it. It would be way too girly for me, much like the previous versions were and it just wouldn't stand the chance to hold any interest for me. But right away, after watching a few episodes, I could definitely see this was a high quality and entertaining show. You just cannot compare it to the previous "My Little Pony" shows because this one infuses so much more action and adventure into the storyline, and the characters themselves are just so darn likable that it's hard not to like them. And when ever there's trouble, they all stick together, as friends should. That's not to say they have their disagreements, which there are plenty of throughout the episodes that have aired. I mean, all I can say to those that haven't watched the show and had a similar opinion to mine before sitting through a couple of episodes is to watch it and give it a chance. You will find that a lot of people think this show is so much better than what CN and Nickelodeon currently have. Yes, it's a show about ponies, and the lead characters are all female. That in of itself will drive people (mostly male watchers) away. But it's so much more than that. It's fun, entertaining, and just a darn good series to get hooked into. That's my opinion of it anyways. And yes, I guess that makes me now a brony, too. :P I'm not ashamed of that - because there are thousands of us out there.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! :( :o :freezing: :scared: :crying:

Another one has been lost to the dark side!!! :bricks:

Why can't we just talk about something more normal like Thundercats? The new show is pretty good and has much less corny dialogue than it's 1980's counterpart! :P

Ah, Klay... lol.

Again, what Luke says here is true:

We know first-hand how far these two have fallen, and it's for a common reason: the producers don't give much **** about the shows anymore, as long as it gets ratings. But Lauren Faust and the team she has left behind (yes, she couldn't keep up being in Vancouver for production and left after episode 28) DO care, and it is easily reflected in the show.

While I randomly saw about a half-episode of Thundercats a couple months ago and thought it was decent, this show is seriously the best thing I've seen since Avatar itself. You *have* to try a couple of the episodes I listed above, at least. While at times the show seems to go girly, you will find the clever ways they keep it entertaining for all, for the most part.

Klay, all I will say is keep an open mind if you ever decide to watch more of MLP:FIM. Because if you decide to watch a few episodes, it will lead to more, then more, and even more. Then you can't get those damn ponies out of your mind! :D You just can't get enough once you've gotten hooked.

I know I've mentioned this before, but what I like about this show is that the storyline is a full 22-minutes. So those in charge of the show can really develop a plot and give it time to finish properly (obviously MLP:FIM isn't the first show to do this, but I really like that they went this route). There are plenty of musical numbers in this series (similar to My Little Pony versions of the past), but they aren't these sappy, girly songs, either. They are often fun, upbeat numbers that'll get your toes tapping (you don't know how hard it is to get "Winter Wrap Up" out of your head). I tell ya, Hasbro was absolutely genius to recruit Lauren Faust into this (famous for Powderpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends) because THIS is how you want to do a version of this show. And Faust was absolutely instrumental for it. It's too bad she's not fully involved with the show like she used to be, but I think FIM will be okay - and it seems like it has been in season 2.

And Gavin has mentioned that there are moments where the characters get a little crazy, to say the least. I absolutely get a kick out of Twilight Sparkle in "Lesson Zero" where she goes berserk, when she is not able to get a letter out to Princess Celestia on the lesson she learned with friendship within a week. Timid Fluttershy loses her cool on a couple of occasions, most notably during episode 26 when she's trying to make friends with the wildlife at the Grand Galoping Gala, only to have them run away in her presence. Needless to say, she's very frustrated at that. They all have their crazy moments and I could go on and on about this show.

There's just one problem with giving it another chance: I still have shame! :-/ Considering that I have a bunch of male college roomates that are always around me when I'm at home, I'd never be able to live it down that I was watching a show like this. :shakehead: Seriously, I'd be better off if somebody walked into my room when I was in the middle of getting dressed and took a picture of me half-naked and posted it on facebook to haze me.

I'll tell you what though, if they ever do a musical number similar to metal songs like Enter Sandman or Back in Black I'd be happy to at least watch something like that. The chances of it happening though: about the same odds of the Indianapolis Colts winning the superbowl this season! :P
