Hawaii’s youngest but most active volcano, Kilauea has once again started spewing lava up to 80ft in the air after the collapse of the floor of the volcano's Pu'u 'O'o crater a day earlier. Hawaii Volcano Observatory scientists said the floor of the crater dropped 377 feet over almost three hours on Saturday and a fissure developed between the Pu'u 'O'o and Napau craters on Kilauea. Kilauea, the home of Hawaii's goddess of fire Pele, has erupted 34 times since 1952. The current activity is a continuation of an eruption that began in 1983. A webcam has been set up to provide updated still images of the erupting fissure and the Puu Oo crater. http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/hvo/cams/NCcam/ |

Lava flows light up Hawaii's Kilauea volcano 5 August 2011 Spectacular new lava flows have been spotted at the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. The flow remains within the boundaries of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and despite causing some roads to be closed, it apparently poses no danger to residents.
