Weather forecast for tonight: dark
The trouble with forcasting is that it's right too often for us to ignore it and wrong too often for us to rely on it.

Temp 11.3c.
Wind SW.
Speed 7.1mph..

Today here was a rather overcast day,with plenty of broken cloud,when the sun did manage to break through the cloud, it was rather nice in the sun shine.The sky now getting more clouded,with more gray clouds,replacing the rather white fluffy clouds that were there during the day.
Why is cloud 9 so amazing ? What is wrong with cloud 8 ?

Regarding rain, 62.8mm has fallen at Claremorris in the first 5 days of April alone, which is over 100% of the entire mean monthly total already! Yet only 11.1mm at Oak Park which is about the normal total you would expect at the station in the first week of April.

Temperatures will reach into the low twenties in many parts of Ireland this afternoon.

Cloud cover will keep temperatures down in much of Ulster and Connacht but mercury levels will rise elsewhere thoughout the afternoon. Trim, Co Meath recorded 22c at 12.15pm while Castletownbere in Co Cork recorded 22.9c shortly afterwards.

Temperatures rarely exceed 24-25c in Ireland during April. Boom Hall in County Derry recorded a daytime max of 24.5c on 24 April, 1984.

While today is likely to be hottest day of the year so far, temperatures will tumble somewhat as the Bank Holiday weekend progresses. There will be plenty of sunshine around at times over the weekend but showers can also be expected, while a band of light rain will push across the country on Saturday morning. READ our long range forecast.

The UK is also enjoying soaring temperatures. The warmest place in England so far this week was Gravesend in Kent where the mercury hit 25.1C (77.18F) while in St James' Park in central London temperatures reached 24.2.C (75.6F).

1PM:
Castletownbere, Cork 23c
Johnstown, Kilkenny and Lucan, Dublin 22c
Waterford City 20.6c
Quin, Clare 20.4c
Kildalton, Kilkenny 20.1c

MIDDAY:
Castletownbere, Cork 22.9c
Johnstown, Kilkenny 22.3c
Trim, Meath 22c,
Quin, Clare 21.2c
Lucan, Dublin, & Valentia, Kerry 21c

Temperatures will reach into the low twenties in many parts of Ireland this afternoon.

Cloud cover kept temperatures down in much of Ulster and Connacht for much of the afternoon but mercury levels have continued to rise under clear skies elsewhere thoughout Ireland. Quin, Co Clare, recorded 23c at 2pm while Castletownbere in Co Cork recorded 22.9c at midday.

Today’s high temperatures are the highest to be recorded in Ireland since at least 2003 when Belmullet in County Mayo recorded 24.4c on April 17th. Boom Hall in County Derry recorded a daytime max of 24.5c on 24 April, 1984. This remains the maximum temperature recorded during April in Northern Ireland.

Other April highs:
2004 – 18.5c at Ardee (Louth) on 24th/25th;
2005 – 18.6c at Belmullet on 25th;
2006 – 18c at Galway on 21st;
2007 – 22.6C at Ardfert on 28th;
2008 – 17.7c Johnstown Castle on 3rd;
2009 – 17.8°C at both Casement Aerodrome and Carlow on 20th;
2010 – 19.6°C at Claremorris on 11th.
