Gov't to ask Chubu Electric to stop Hamaoka nuclear power plant

TOKYO, May 6, Kyodo

Prime Minister Naoto Kan said Friday the Japanese government has asked Chubu Electric Power Co. to suspend all its nuclear reactors at the Hamaoka nuclear power station, citing experts' forecast of a major earthquake that could hit the region. 0-m-g- 0-m-g- :( :( :(

Read about this but could not see any credible reason, other than the fear of not having reacted to pre-warnings, for stopping operations. Earthquakes are not easily predicted.
