http://www.irishweatheronline.com/forecast/weather-alert-storm-udo-bears-down-on-ireland/15169.html

ALERT: Storm Force 10 winds, gusting to 100-135kph. Strongest winds in Connacht, and western and northern parts of Ulster.

Resembling more of a setup from January, not May, conditions will become very stormy over the next 24 hours, especially later Sunday night and Monday. A potent storm centre (named ‘Storm Udo’) of around 980 hPa will develop and pass to the north of Ireland, bringing with it extremely strong winds and heavy rain, most severe in northern and western parts.

Sustained winds of up to Storm Force 10, with stronger gusts, will affect the northwest during Monday, but the rest of the country will not escape, with gales affecting most coastal areas. With trees now in full leaf, there is a greater chance of them falling now than with a winter storm, as the force of the wind acts on a larger total surface area of the tree. It would be prudent to also make sure that bbqs and other garden furniture are secured in advance or you may come home to find them in the neighbour’s garden, or further afield!

An ‘Amber‘ weather alert has also been issued for parts of Scotland.

Irish Weather Online Senior Forecaster Peter O'Donnell said: "The radar now indicating the first signs of what should develop into some scattered squally showers with some hail and thunder, and the slight risk of a minimal tornado capable of doing minor damage. To put that in perspective, there is perhaps a 30% chance that we'll get one report of a small tornado later today. But hail, thunder and gusty winds will be much more likely and most people will see at least some (more) of those.

"It would appear a bit more likely that locally severe showers might develop in a broad zone from about Limerick northeast to Meath, with a second area across north Mayo into west Ulster", he added.
