Try to come into contact with ghosts (that's all I hear about Vietnam from my parents - ghosts) while you're studying the prisons, that would be quite an experience. |

I'm at a hotel called Cap Saint Jacques and it's located in a city called Vung Tau: http://www.hotelcapsaintjacques.com It's awesome, because the beach is right outside. Too bad I'm just going to stay here for 24 hours. Anyways, I took a dive in the warm water today :) The further out you swim, the colder the water gets. I went pretty far out because when it's hot as hell, you just want to swim in cold water :o What I've learned so far about Vietnam: - The traffic is absolutely crazy in the cities. I believe Vietnam is the country with the most scooters. - There are traffic rules, but almost nobody follows them. - If you are busted and gets a ticket - take the officer out for a cup of coffee to reduce the ticket. - When crossing the street, walk slowly. If you walk fast or run, the vechicles will do the same. - Vietnamese movies/TV shows are dubbed by one and only one person. Meaning if the dubber is male, and there's a female actress talking, the dubbing will be male - Food and fruits are incredible cheap here |

Change of plans. Looks like I'll be heading for Nha Tran (apparently a very beautiful island?) and then I'll be spending my last days in the capitol city (Saigon/Ho Chi Minh). What I've learned so far about Vietnam - PART 2: - The local government can cut your electricity anytime they want. They used to warn the citiziens about the shutdowns, but now they no longer do. Today it was from 5 AM to 8 PM! - Same goes with your water-system. - Girls in small towns are prettier and cuter than the ones in big cities (that's my opinion) - Food and clothing in big cities are more than twice as expensive than in small towns. Example: A bowl of pho in Long Xuyen costs 13000 Dong, while in Saigon, it costs 45000 Dong! (1 USD = 16000-18000 Vietnamese Dong) - Cooler-systems are your best friends in Vietnam - you CAN'T beat the HEAT! Every house should have one. - You should shower at least 3 times a day - unless you want to walk around all sweaty. - Vietnamese coffee is darker and dense than normal coffee. I always have to ask for extra hot water. Unless I order iced milked coffee (cafe sua da). - If the cops don't like your face, they will stop you. - You cannot survive in Vietnam without friends or network. Everybody will try to rip you off. - Don't wear white or shiny clothes if you want to adapt to the environment. - If the highway patrol stops you, pretend to write your name and give them 200000 Dong. |

Nope, I've never been there. I always pictured it village-esque rather than an urban place. |
