While walking home from work today, I saw some girls selling coffee outside the building. As I walked pass them, one of them smiled and kindly asked if I wanted FREE coffee... ...for a little money. I smiled and said no thanks and walked away. I could see that her body was filled with disappointment and sadness. I walked a few blocks then suddenly I also started to feel sad. I don't know, there's something about being outside in the cold weather all day long, trying to sell stuff to bypassers in order to make some pocketmoney that makes me feel very bad for them. So I came back and gave them money - they were starting to pack their stuff to go home when I arrived, so I made it just in time! If my calculations are correct, I gave them 17x more than their original price for the cup of coffee. Best of all, I didn't even ask for the coffee. I'm glad I made that decision - I felt GOOD after this. Life is all about being good and collecting points (if they exists, no harm in believing, hehe). Edit: Now that I think about it, it doesn't necessary have to be called KARMAPOINTS. I could call it LIFEPOINTS or something. |

That's pretty considerate of you. I get confuse with myself about things like this. Sometimes you don't feel particularly benevolent and you don't want to help others but your moral and social conscience says you should. Whatever good deed you do feels selfish as it's not really genuine and doesn't come from the heart. You either halfheartedly help out (and feel crummy for doing it) or be true to yourself but let others down which also makes you feel crummy ;( Edited by EVILyangkuang, Oct 23 2009, 05:04 AM.
