FFXIII

Posted by Pure Poison 1 (Members) at Yesterday, 8:44 PM. 2 comments

So we are actually getting this game at the same time as everywhere else. I love FF but am not too excited about this yet. Maybe it is because I finally started FFX-2 and it sucks. Is anyone else going to get this when it comes out? It will be cheaper to import but since it is a worldwide release I will just buy it locally.

I had been planning to take annual leave when it was released but at the moment I'm more excited about ME2. Kind of over the FF series although I have to admit, so far the graphics of FFXIII look a lot better than most PS3 games.

The race is on

Jammers ordered his copy of L4D2 last sun, i ordered mine on mon morn, he got his via DHL, i got mine standard. Mine shipped mon afternoon, jammers only shipped TODAY. From previous experience i should get my copy mon or tues, jammers, we dont know, as we havent ordered via DHL on this site.

Bit of a pointless thread, but i'm gonna laugh myself silly if i get mine before jammers.

First details from the new Famitsu have hit the net, and what a surprise they contain this week! Grasshopper/Suda 51's previously Wii exclusive franchise, No More Heroes, is jumping ship to the 360/PS3.

The game will be called No More Heroes Paradise and will hit retail in Japan on February 25. A new Advanced Mode and Japanese voice overs will also make their appearance. As a Wii title, the obvious bonus for the PS3 version would be the support of motion controls, but the game is due well before the expected launch of the Sony motion control wands. Nothing has been mentioned one way or the other, but hopefully the title will support that feature once they become available

Earlier this year, soundtrack producer Gem Impact leaked that Suda 51 was working on a PS3 game - it's likely this is it.

Would You Pay for Modern Warfare 2 Online?

Speaking to GameCentral, Activision has been talking about using a similar subscription model to games like World Of WarCraft for Call Of Duty, claiming that paying for online features is a result of fan demand.

“Our gamers are telling us there’s lots of services and innovation they would like to see that they’re not getting yet,” they said. “There is demand from the core gamers to pay up for that.”

Would you pay to play MW2 online?

What? People are demanding to give you even more money!?!?! For what? You make the game, people pay for it. You make new maps, people pay for it. How is Activision not being properly compensated?

Activision have become a nasty joke of a company, and I find myself having to really want a game that's under their banner for me to give them money now.

SSF4 Won't Have Character Unlocks

One of the main complaints Street Fighter IV is that you have to unlock extra characters by beating the game over and over again. Fortunately, Capcom is eliminating this tedious process for the upcoming sequel, Super Street Fighter IV, as all characters will be unlocked from the beginning. Seth Killian, the Community Manager for Capcom, made the announcement in the latest 4 Guys 1UP Podcast show:

The good news is, and this is something I want to get out there, the thing that really sucked about Seth in the first one is that you have to beat him like 15 times to unlock all the characters. In Super Street Fighter IV, there’s no unlocks. So you can play all the characters right away.

Super Street Fighter IV is slated for a Spring release on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

I'm sorry, but that isn't good news. MvsC2 was completely ruined for me by removing all the unlocks, and if you can't handle beating the game with every character (and that's only for Seth!) then you don't deserve to use him anyway.

Unlocks in fighting games seem almost necessary. They are your reward for beating the shit out of people. A trophy to show off to the next person you're about to beat the shit out of, and a sense of achievement when you beat the shit out someone with a better trophy than you. They are like the "belts" of the gaming world.

The "I've finished MW2 spoiler thread"

Posted by felicitous blue (Members) at Saturday Nov 14 2009, 02:02 AM. 7 comments

I think most of us will have finished this now or very soon, I know I just have. Thought I'd post a thread where we can all jerk off to how great it was with no fear of spoiler... actually, scratch that, disturbing image.

Perhaps I'm being a bit blinkered but ... wow. Perfectly paced, perfect length, and a great plot. Sure, it's not going to win a pulitzer prize or an oscar, but for an action based peice of media, it could teach the Bay's and Brockheimer's of the world a thing or two.

I'm sure someone is going to say they saw all the twists coming a mile off, but I didn't. Sure, I thought Shepard was dodgy but didn't guess quite how dodgy.

Thinking back to MW1, which I recently replayed, there where a number of levels where it just dragged; and the last bit in the missile silos was a bit of a let down. It really felt to me like they avoided that with MW2

The 'oops, your character died" mechanic was heading towards being overplayed - I think they got away with it, but if they keep doing it in MW3 it will get a bit old.

Some might say it didn't quite hit the highs of the sniper level in MW1... or the shock of the nuke - in fact, some reviews are already saying this. Well, maybe not but as a package MW2 was more consistent, and there was enough other new stuff to make up for it.

There was no way they could emulate the Nuke level again, although the bit at the end where you chase down Shepard was well done.

And the nuke in MW2 was just as cool anyway; I was trying to figure out WTF Price was up to, seemed obvious afterwards but to start with I thought those years in the gulag had made him a little bit cuckoo... well played Infinity Ward.

I'll shut up now and let someone else speak..... :)

Original: Facebook integration, the ability to change your gamercard colors and more are coming to PlayStation 3, if these images from an anonymous tipster are to be believed.

The leaked images show the ability to manage your Facebook in your PlayStation Network account settings, changing the color of your PlayStation Network gamercard and a new, more sufficient way of looking through your photos.

Consider this a rumor right now, but the shots look pretty damn legit.

Update: Looks like these shots were taken directly from the PlayStation website itself. Link here, here and here. It’s real.

There is rumoured to be a firmware update next Thursday. If so, Sony are seriously pissing on MS's fire with that one.

MS banning between 600,000 - 1 million users

Anywhere between an estimated 600,000 and 1 million players who use Microsoft's Xbox Live gaming service will be cut off from the service because they have modified their game consoles or played games that were illegally downloaded from file-sharing sites, according to the company.

"All consumers should know that piracy is illegal and that modifying their Xbox 360 console violates the Xbox Live terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox Live," Microsoft said in a statement Wednesday.

This follows an earlier story that MS have demanded their staff to have at least 600,000 Live subscribers banned by Christmas. The stories seem to be matching up, but that was in the US alone.

That's alot of people...

November 2010 release, 5m units global ship, 14 games, and super-low sub-£50 price

MCV can this week reveal first details regarding the launch of Microsoft's Project Natal.

Our sources say the innovative controller-free 360 camera will be released worldwide in November 2010.

This and other details have emerged following a behind-closed-doors Microsoft tour of UK publishers and studios – the format-holder has been demoing the tech and detailing its 2010 plans in order to spur more development support.

Microsoft is planning to manufacture 5m units for day one release, with a mix of console and camera plus solus SKUs expected.

The device should cost under £50 when sold solo. One publishing source says Microsoft is “trying to get as close as possible to ‘impulse buy’”. Another even says the camera could even retail for just £30.

PC Gamers Rage Against MW2

It's no secret now that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 caused a big stir on the PC when it was announced that it would not come with dedicated servers as all the previous Call of Duty titles did. Instead it would implement a peer2peer system where gamers connect to other gamers who host a game while they play it. The mod, clan and server hosting community was shocked and decided to call a boycott on Modern Warfare 2.

It now seems the boycott is just beginning. Users across Gamespot, IGN and Amazon have vented their frustration by submitting a great number of user reviews lashing out at the game and lowering user scores across the respective sites.

IGN user rating: 2.1 / 10
Gamespot user rating: 5.0 / 10
Amazon user rating: 1.5 / 5 Stars

User reviews also detailed heavy distasted for the treatment of the PC port

M. Weir on Amazon:

“It's painfully obvious that Infinity Ward prefer console development at this point (particularly the 360, which gets exclusive content before anybody else for the second game in row now), and it's even clearer that Activsion are greedy jerks.”

SpecterXX on Gamespot:

“The worst part of all of this is that Activision is still pitching the no dedicated servers as an improvement in playability.”

mark_150 on IGN:

“Despite claims that this is the most 'feature ritch' PC version in the series, IW seem to have completely ruined the PC online part. No dedicated servers, limited to 9v9 (6v6 for some modes), no mods, heck it doesn't even show your ping”

Above are just some examples of the many reviews currently on the websites. It’s not clear at this point what Activision will to if anything to stop this user rating from dragging the score well below. Or if indeed the sites close user ratings and reviews for a little while the internet rage subsides. What is clear though is that there are quite a few annoyed fans that need to vent their frustration.

Word is there is a wall hack out there for the PC already.

xbox live functionality without having to pay for live...

Posted by wilchelus (Members) at Thursday Nov 12 2009, 11:26 AM. 4 comments

Has anyone looked into this type of thing? ie. Creating (using software on a PC on your home network) a private network over the internet that enables your xbox360 to use system link to play online games with others on your private network.

It looks like a good idea, and a free alternative to "live". Only feasible if you have enough friends though, I guess. Or friends that want to play online. The pro there would be no-randoms.

Could also be a solution for the Left 4 Dead lagginess (unless that's been fixed already). System link normally uses one of the console's as a server/host, which means only as much lag as the host's bandwidth allows (like in rainbow 6 vegas 2).

Media Molecule's Thoughts on LBP2

When it came to the future of the LittleBigPlanet franchise on the PS3, they were decidedly unambiguous.

“I think what you’ve seen so far from LittleBigPlanet, that’s the way it’s going to continue.” said producer Martin Lynagh, referring to DLC and updates for the existing game.

Level designer Danny Leaver said that a sequel would fragment the LBP community. “We’d never want to do that. That’d be the most counterproductive thing you could do I think.” he said.

Media Molecule have given what is surely the most dedicated post – launch community support in the history of video games, and such dismissal of a sequel should serve to reassure fans still further.

Good on them! They're showing far more integrity that Activision and they're stupid amount of Guitar Hero sequels that could easily have been DLC....

Major Nelson's Lastest on Console Banning

As you may have read online, we’ve been actively banning consoles from Xbox LIVE that have been modified to play pirated games. Our commitment to combat piracy and support safer and more secure gameplay for the more than 20 million members of our Xbox LIVE community remains a top priority. All consumers should know that piracy is illegal, and that modifying their Xbox 360 console to play pirated discs, violates the Xbox LIVE terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox LIVE. The health of the video game business depends on customers paying for the genuine products and services they receive from manufacturers, retailers, and the third parties that support them. This would also be a good time to remind you that the warranty on an Xbox 360 console is not transferrable and if you purchase a used console that has been previously banned, you will not be able to connect to Xbox LIVE.

Well haven't they changed their tune? Pretty much sums up the focus on the 360 lately. The statement used to be that they were banned because it opened the door for cheating online, which wasn't fair to all the people paying to play. Fair point I thought.
