Wondering if anyone else on here is a Media Centre type...?

I have a dedicated PC in the lounge which does all our TV, videos, photos, music etc... and am currently in the process of redesigning the system from the ground up, moving to a distributed model, will be running 2 media centres (one lounge, one bedroom) both drawing media via database driven applications from a central server, that will (current plan) host a 2TB RAID5 array, and a couple of 80GB duplicated drives, too.

i'd really like to look at hooking up something like this in future, once i get a new pc that can handle video editing and such, and a surround system too

Bump my own thread, coz what the hell...

Finished the build soon after first post, few outstanding niggles, just spent last week doing a full rebuild to remove all of those.

-Server is in place and running nicely with the 2TB array. running out of space though...

-Lounge MC is about $450 worth of hardware, $150 worth of software, and is running perfectly, can handle recording and playing the AU HD content, and eats 720p MKVs for breakfast.

-Bedroom hardware is worth even less, and is holding up fine as a secondary device

Got all the music/photos/recorded TV hosted centrally, and accessing it via either MC is easy as. Maybe i'm getting old, but running a slideshow of my 'top' photos with some music playing in the lounge whilst entertaining guests is pretty bloody cool in my opinion :)

Pretty cool man. I plan on setting up something very similar in the near future now I've finally had the whole house networked. Currently, the modded Xboxes and 360's are doing the trick for me, but once I get the 2nd plasma that I want, It'll be worth going to the effort to get some nice HD output.
