It was updated last night to include trophy support and also training modes so you don't get whipped online. Who else has it? I'm going to start up and OSG clan and invite everyone anyway.

While I was typing this, Warhawk was blaring away in the lounge room, and bugger me if that theme music doesn't sound like Robocop!

I have. Only played one game, been waiting for the update.... training levels FTW. think cartoony version of BF, with emphasis on vehicles. The one game I've played was fun, except the constantly-getting-raped-when-trying-to-fly-the-warhawk bits. Next time, I'll ask my flatmate to leave the room. Baddum Tish, I'm here all week, thank you thank you......... PS - I'll be in that clan thingy Hiss, cheers. (what do I need to do to join?) |

Cool. Played through flight training earlier, got the trophy. Nice. The original warhawk was the very first game I owned on PsOne, therefore was the very first console game I ever owned and kicked off my console love affair. Before then, I struck strictly to devices bearing keyboards. |

It's a bitch to fly the Warhawk. So much going on, so much control needed, and a ton of flicking between weapons. It's hard to avoid all the different missiles without chaf, but that's on the weapon select list. By the time you flick to your own missile and start a lock-on, you've been locked on again yourself... Still fun though. And it's now feeding my inner trophy whore. Well on my way to level 3! |

I think the key is using manouvre's too break lock rather than chaff. inverse immelman seems to be a good manouvre for breaking missile locks. (immelman is just a fancy name for a 180' climb/turn... takes me back to my Falcon 3.0 days, ah but for a decent non-arcady flight sim on console) Yes, though, missile locks are a bitch..... wait til you play online, that's how I got ravished last time I played. Even so, was heaps fun. Have you tried playing/flying with pro controls? That's what I did first up, sick bags at the ready if you touch the right stick. Non "Pro" controls are not only easier, but seem to allow for better manouvrability, and the Pro controls don't mimic proper flight controls fully anyway. (sorry, internal spellcheck is wonky, I'm sure I spelt immelman and manouvre wrong......) |

I did have a crack online, but the connection bombed out on me right at the end so it never registered. There was shit flying everywhere! I was on a rookie server, but I think some of those guys weren't really rookies.Didn't know there was pro controls. I'll have to have a look and see what I'm using now. |

the pro controls just seem to unlock the warhawk from auto-aligning with the horizon, and put roll/yaw on the right stick. It feels funny, cause the left stick still controls the same, with banks still leveling out, and rolling the warhawk with the right stick doesn't cause it to bank in the same way as "proper" flight controls would. It seems more like it turns the right analogue into a "free form" trick stick...... Oh, and I signed up clan wise last night.... now we need more peeps. And practice. |

cool wound... it's a bit mad to start with as you'll see from mine and Hiss' posts above. I'm starting to get the hang of it now.... actually shot down some peeps and scored some points this arvo. Felt good not to be dieing all the time ![]() Pity the rookie servers are all in europe... 300-350 ping for me, boo. Also, I think "general" is a bit too high a rank for the rookie servers; some of the guys playing are definitely not rookies....... |

it should list the "ping" - you want a low number (should be listed furthest to the "right" of the server list) Also, there's "official" servers, and ones people have set up themselves; can't remember off the top of my head what the specific flag is, but one way to tell is wether the server allows 'trophies' - on the left hand side of the server screen.... only get trophies on 'ranked' servers. There should be a load of servers which have "rookie" in the title; these are a good place to start but the ping will not be the best. There where a couple of servers yesterday showing (for me) with pings of around 90, I think they where West Aussies who'd set up their own servers...... (I know one was - recognised his tag from the official forums). I passed, until I've got a bit better

warhawk has both dedicated 'sony' servers, and PS3 as host. You can set up your PS3 as a dedicated host, or play and host. There's a trophy for setting up as a dedicated host for 4 hours.... Sony have always said they'd leave infrastructure decisions to the individual developers/publishers - so some games have peer to peer, others have a server infrastructure. Same as with Live, from what I gather. M$ just sort of supplies architecture, but I can't get any more technical than that (for example - GoW was peer-to-peer, hence the host advantage.). Hiss, can you add anything technical to this - you're the expert

You pretty much covered it Blue. Live is kinda like a big net of standards which maintains control over peer to peer servers. There are exceptions if the developer chooses, but it's a controlled and seamlessly integrated environment that can be offered up with no extra charge to developers than dev time since it's paid for by us. With the PS3, there's bugger all standards. It rests on the developers head as to how they want to offer online. Most have dedicated servers, paid for and maintained by themselves, and some offer peer to peer though they still need to offer the service in between to match you up much like Live does. With Warhawk, it works alot like a PC game. There are official servers, but since it's built around a clan system, they've offered peer to peer as well so you can host your own clan matches for training. The nice in between is giving the dedicated server option so people can help with the load. Anyone who's been playing PC games online for a while will know the score. |
