back on track.... I used to enjoy Halloween in England as a kid; it wasn't americanised, you didn't do "trick or treat", you played bobbing for apples at school and just dressed up as a monster for the fun of it. Now it's just an excuse for kids to harrass the neighbours. What really shits me though is how there's all this guff (or there was last year, if my memory serves me correctly) about how it isn't "safe" for kids to go trick or treating anymore, organising parents to escort the little shits around, the american dental association coming out saying how all the sweet stuf rots kids teeth so people should give apples. If it's such a bleedin' hassle to keep going with the 'tradition', then just stop doing it. And what's with halloween costumes that aren't scary?. Why the hell would you let your kid dress up as batman? Or, for chrissakes, some celebrity? If any little shits come to my door this year in anything other than a ghost, vampire, zombie or werewolf they're getting punched. Or worse - not even dressing up at all. What the crap is going on there. That's just begging - let's rename halloween "teaching-your-kids-how-to-be-a-beggar night". Except I bet the little bastards parents would be the first to complain if you hung around their local shopping centre asking for spare change. Screw it. This year, I'm dressing as a homeless person and going round with my new version of trick or treat - "any spare change mister, or I'll key your car and piss in your letter box". deep breath. Halloween should be about having one night in the year where you scare each other shitless and can dress as a zombie or vampire in public without getting arrested. edit - few too many fucks, fixed now. variety in profanity FTW edit 2 - yes vote for me though, on a technicality. I do think we should celebrate the witching night, just not in it's americanised way. Originally, it was a pagan/druidic festival.... One of the solstices or something, can't remember now Edited by felicitous blue, Saturday Oct 25 2008, 12:45 PM.

Nope, no interest in it what so ever. Although the wife has stocked up on lollies but I think it may be for her more than the kids. Off topic but speaking of holidays, how funny is that Telstra ad where teh kid and dad have been called into see the teacher over his answer to a question "Why do we get a day off on 26 of Jan" little kids answer "so we can sit and watch the cricket" that is how Aussies treat public holidays, just a day off. |
