Ok, I know only a few people have GHWT, but has anyone tried or heard anything reputable as to how the peripherals (drum specifically) work with Rock Even more specifically, how well does it translate - given the GH drumkit has 5 + kick, and Rock band only has 4 inputs + kick. Which pad isn't used, and does it fuck up how the game plays? Interested to know.... Edited by felicitous blue, Saturday Nov 15 2008, 01:08 PM.

I got rockband today. The song selection is WAY better than GH WT. More varied. I like rock as much as the next person, but it's not my main musical taste. I know, I know, I'm using a fairly broad term to define GH's music, but you must admit that apart from a few odd tracks, it all falls within a fairly narrow spectrum. Anyhoo. The note placement is a lot more logical, and a lot more like what you would expect to play. The drums do work, and most of the time it's fine, but the kit isn't as "unified" as in GH, which I had guessed would be the case. It only uses the red, yellow, blue and green pads, so the orange cymbal is unused. For example; In GH, the cymbals are cymbals, the red pad is snare, blue and green are toms. In Rock band, the blue pad could be a tom, a ride cymbal or a crash cymbal. All in the same song. What really throw you is when the yellow pad (which is a cymbal in GH, was just like the others in RB) is used as a tom. And I'm guessing at some point, red will be hi-hat and yellow snare; which will be truly fucked. So it works, but isn't perfect. It's also a little more confusing at times and would have been on the original kit due to the multi-use nature of the pads. Worth it for the better songs though. War pigs by NIN is a bitch to play..... |

Really? Cause I bought it when it came out and stopped playing it because of the songs. At least in GH you don't have to finish every song in the set to move on, and you can skip the rather ordinary ones for later. Being forced to play through them all is really shitting me. |

I was commenting more on the song choice, rather than game structure. Being able to skip sets is all well and good, but when you're struggling to find a set with one song that interests you...... Different tastes, I suppose. |

I understood you, I just meant that the game structure in GH makes the song selection a bit more bearable if it doesn't suit your taste. In RB, they give you a full set and you have to play every song and your only choice is what order you play it in. In GH, if the songs aren't something that's making you want to play, you can leave one behind and skip the encore if you really want, and move onto the next set. I feel less forced to play the songs I'm not really interested in, and makes the game feel like less of a chore. |

point taken. I'm referring more to having a choice of songs to go back to. I've always been happy (well, willing at least) going through playing songs I don't like to unlock the others, as have my "game head" on for that - years of being conditioned to grind through levels to unlock the good stuff - but it's once the sets are unlocked and you want to go back just playing the good stuff that I'm talking about. I do like with GHWT that you can change difficulty mid career. Again, it's down to musical taste I guess. |

If you buy GHWT it works perfectly for Rock Band. But not the other way around, so buy GHWT and then the stand alone Rock Band game and you're laughing. That's what my missis did anyway, she is game manager at JB so it's no lie. No lie, plenty truth! lol |

Cool. She went and bought GH2 and didnt like it, but Big W wouldnt let her return it. Then she bought WT (they didnt have any with instruments) and realised she could only sing. So now shes going to buy GH:A with a guitar. Hilarious.
