Dead Space and Downfall

While picking up Sonic Unleashed this morning, I also scored a practically mint pre-owned copy of Dead Space for $40.

Now that people have had a chance to absorb both the game and the prequel movie, which should I stick my head into first? I've had Downfall for a while but wasn't sure if I should watch it yet. I've heard/read conflicting stories that say Downfall either does or doesn't ruin the story a little.

Advice please!

Haven't seen Downfall bro. Have you watched the comic on youtube/xboxlive yet?

The only advice i can give you is play it in the Dark.

I watched downfall before i played the game. I really enjoyed it - it made me more invested in the story. It really explains why you land on the Ishimura and what happened to cause it.

I loved it - I could see myself watching it again after I finish the game!

No, Dead Space: Downfall. I guess it would be loosely classed as Anime.

I think I'll watch Downfall first then. I'm sure it can't ruin too much if they released it at the same time.

I picked up Dead Space for $54 new from JB today. I'd gone there specifically to get it, so the cheap price was a bonus.

Ummed and arred over wether to get the movie as well, decided not .... just reading the blurb seemed a bit of a spoiler.

I'll play the game first, the question is - is the movie worth getting?
yo listen up here's a story
about a little guy that lives in a blue world
and all day and all night and everything he sees
is just blue like him inside and outside
blue his house with a blue little window
and a blue corvette
and everything is blue for him and hisself
and everybody around
cos he ain't got nobody to listen to

i'm blue da ba dee da ba die...

It's hard to explain Blue. The movie really is a spoiler, but knowing the background of what's going on as opposed to following a linear path while being fed tiny little bits of story at a slow pace makes the game more interesting to me. The movie only gives you a background of what happened to the ship and not the big picture. It's kept me happily ploughing through it and I'm glad i watched the movie first.

I would recommend playing the game entirely first Blue. I caved and watched it on the weekend since i had nothing to do and i can see how it would be better to finish the game first and then watch it. Im up to chapter 7 or 8 atm and yeh there was still some spoilers in there for me. Im not saying it'll utterly ruin the experience but imo it would be better to play then watch

It seems to be different for everyone but I would say game fisrt then movie. Then it will be sorta like star wars was, episodes 4,5,6 before 1,2,3. Well I can't wait for the second game now after spending countless hours on this and finally obtaining 1000/1000.

On another note the Tank pack avialable on the marketplace is a definate look at if you want that little more armour. Well actually it's a little more than just a bit :P

I played this a bit more last night, and am more and more impressed.

I can honestly say that playing this is the first time probably ever I have actually been a bit scared playing a game. I've had the usual "on edge" feeling with the occasional game, but I was genuinely bricking it last night. And not at any of the bits that had a monster-thingy (ok, necromorphs, pfft), always during the bits inbetween where your imagination fills in the blanks.

There are some masterful plays where you "know" for certain that something bad is going to happen - because you've played survival horror before, so you know what to expect - and then.... it doesn't. Leaving you even more on edge.

Brilliant.
