This game is what you would call "a step in the right direction". Actually, I would possibly even rephrase that. The Sonic daytime levels in this game are pure brilliance and everything a Sonic fan has been asking for since we cried impatiently during the Saturn days. The Hedgehog Engine is a work of art, and Sonic is as fast as all hell once again! I have yet to see any signs at all of the game wanting to chug as Sonic friggen rips through gorgeous looking levels at top speed. If they replaced the human world environments for old skool Mobius, then they would have finally smashed that nail square on the head and into oblivion. Special mention also to the opening cinematic. Holy crap! Sonic fans have to love that! It plants Sonic squarely back into the realm of one cool hedgehog you don't mess with, and Robotnik/Eggman back into the realm of real evil genius with a robot army at his command. But... For a 3D platforming game, the Werehog levels are quite good. They don't, however, belong in a Sonic game. Neither do the hub worlds were you slowly walk around and talk to people who have jack shit all to say. Sonic Team need to realise that they're killing the buzz of everything they got right by pulling the handbrake on a game that's all about speed. I think the Werehog idea is a damn cool one, but why can't he be a fast Werehog instead of a slow one with stretchy arms? They could have been clever and had Sonic transform middle level and stuff. The other thing sitting strangely with me is the shift in cinematics from the awesome opener to every other cutscene. They go from kick arse to kids cartoon almost instantly. It's rather odd, and i really wished they'd kept up the tempo from the opener. It's almost like a whole different team worked on that or something. If they take the criticisms of this game on board when they make the next one, we're going to be in for one hell of a game. They got so much right this time, and all the things they did get off the track with a bearable for the sake of playing the good parts. I'm pretty happy with it. As an extra note, it seems Sega sacked the last batch of testers and got in some more competent ones. Hvaen't found any silly bug yet, or died due to a fault in the game like the last one. It also doesn't have the completely bullshit load times of the last one either. |

Picked up today, will post my impressions later. On the same note though, each sonic game has never really let down in the cut scene side of things, they are allways truely awesome

No, this opener truly is awesome. It's puts the last few into perspective Blitz. Played more of it last night, and it does have another big problem. You really need to persevere a bit at the start. It prick teases you with an awesome Sonic level, and then a whole heap of Werehog for some reason. I'm hoping I'll get smacked with the same amount of proper Sonic real soon, but it's enough to put the impatient people right off... |

Good news is I was right. Tolerate the excessive Werehog at the start and the game opens right up. Really loving it now. |

I've just watched some gameplay videos. The sonic bits looks better than i thought. The werewolf level reminded me of Sonic Heros 2? on the DC. All those Knuckles, tail, bat thing, ect levels sucked ass. Never did finish even though i loved the sonic and shadow levels. Why can't they make the werewolf be like super sonic from Sonic 2 on the MD. |

Cause he's meant to be a curse more than an advantage. And it's going to have Super Sonic in it anyway, of course.

Well yes, this game starts out Fucking spectacular with the proper sonic levels really bringing back the meaning of Sonic Speed. Then of course you hit the werehog parts, which arn't too bad, but there more a crash bandicoot type of thing than a sonic. As Hiss said if this game consisted of all true sonic levels then it would be that last and final shock from the padels that would bring the series back to life. All in all though it is a good game and i am enjoying throughly. I've done two proper sonic levels compared to about 4 or 5 werehog ones at the moment though

I'm sure the 2D levels of the old days took just as long to make as 3D ones do these days. They just didn't try and pump out a game a year. A Sonic level also doesn't need to be anywhere near as detailed as say, a Mario level. You don't need to hang around and smell the roses and the levels can be really stretched out if they want, especially at the speed he travels in this game. But really, I don't think they even needed the 3D element of the Sonic levels. If they want to go a full on, Sonic only game, then I don't think anyone would complain about it being 2D style. I'm still filthy all the 2D power of the Saturn was completely skipped over... |

The Werehog levels are really pissing me off now. So much twitch jumping and grabbing, boring button mashing for fights, and some of the checkpoints are just crap. Yet, I'm loving the proper Sonic levels more and more. Even the village parts are more fun as Sonic. No more excuses Sonic Team. The answer is so friggen simple.... |

You'd think with so many voices at once, their next installement would be a sure thing for sure right? Pure Sonic crazyness? I don't care how long it takes them ( Well i do, but thats not the point) just take what you made from this one and make it into a complete Sonic speeeeeed game |
