After an eternity of waiting and teasing, Eidos Montreal finally admitted the second big title it is working on (the first is Deus Ex 3) is a long awaited sequel, Thief 4. Or as the logo would have you believe, Thi4f.

Even if you knew it was coming, it's grand to hear it from the horses's mouth. To say the original Thief: the Dark Project left an impression is to not do it justice. Published in 1998, the "sneak 'em up" put you in the quiet boots of Garrett, a chap who may not be that good at killing stuff, but knew how to stay in the shadows.

2000's Thief II: The Metal Age was arguably even better - more sneaking, less combat. And the third Thief we'll just forget about, save for noting if Eidos really wanted to get clever with their titling number substitution, #3 was a better bet than #4. Then again, look what that approach did for Driv3r; Thi4f it is.

No details are released beyond the fact the project is in existence - Eidos Montreal are putting together the team now still, so it is very early days. Hopefully E3 will yield some activity. That Assassin's Creed engine would look pretty good. Just sayin'
