The Infected Facts

1 - There 3 New Special Infected (only one revealed so far.)
The Charger, specifically designed for speaking up camping survivors. Knocks down survivors and then picks up the last one and begins smashing him into the ground which only another survivor can free him from. The Charger is much tougher than the other Special Infected (besides the Witch and Tank) but is especially weak from behind.

2- Uncommon Common Infected are special non-playable common infected. For example in the Campaign Parish the some of the common infected wear hazmat suits and can't be put on fire (Hazmat Infected) are only exclusive to the Parish campaign that we saw. However, it is said that other campaigns have each of their own uncommon common infected that have other special abilities.

3 - Tank, Hunter, Boomer, Smoker still exist and are modified in some way.

4 - More gore this time around for the infected. You can now literally tear them apart limb by limb, more blood and gore shown. For example you can even see torn backs/heads with wounds. Common infected are a bit tougher and can now survive dismemberment to a degree.

The Campaigns Facts

1 - Five New Campaigns (One is already known as The Parish - This time it all goes down south.

2 - The Parish Campaign is a pure broad daylight campaign.

3 - All Campaigns will be ready for Versus, 4 Player Co-op, Survival and the new multiplayer game mode right out of the box as you purchase it on the launch day.

4 - Custom maps will be portable to Left 4 Dead 2

5 - All 5 campaigns will be connected by a single overarching story, unlike L4D1. The first campaign will be set in Savannah, Georgia before the infection fully sets in, the survivors will make their way through a swamp at some point and the final campaign (The Parish) takes place in New Orleans.
6 - Maps will be massive with different routes available. Sometimes they will be open and other times they will be closed off.

The Survivors Facts

1 - Four New Survivors
Coach, a high-school football coach.
Rochelle, a cable television reporter from Cleveland.
Ellis, a fun-loving southern mechanic.
Nick, a con-man and gambler who is initially unsure of the other survivors.


Gameplay Modes Changes/Additions Facts

1- Witches wander around the infected crowd during the day and sit and cry during the night.

2- New multiplayer gameplay mode that we do not know of yet.

3 - The AI Director is now smarter/harder and can change the layout of the map depending on how good or bad your doing. If you're doing good then a specific part of the map can end up being a maze with a dead end and only one way out or if your doing bad it can be as easy as going through a straight line.
Weather events dictated by the AI Director, particularly in swamps. These will suddenly reduce visibility so you will be unable to see other survivor's outlines.
4 - Single Player, Survival, Versus modes will ship with the game (+ the "new" multiplayer gameplay mode).

5 - According to the videos some of the Left 4 Dead 2 achievements seem to be same as the original Left 4 Dead achievements.


6- A new type of crescendo events refered to as "gauntlets" which require the survivors to move to a new area to turn off the crescendo so they cannot simply hide in a corner and wait it out.
A crescendo was mentioned where you must make your way through a parking lot full of cars with alarms and must avoid setting them off.
7 - Car alarms will not last a set time. If one goes off you need to vacate the area or the infected will keep on coming.

The Weapons Facts

1 - Incendiary ammunition, a special ammunition type that, when picked up, gives you one full magazine of bullets that set whatever it hits on fire before reverting to normal ammunition.

2 - New Weapons - total 20 new items/weapons
New Pistol = Sig Sauer which can be dual-wielded with a Glock. It is unknown if there are any functional difference.
New Pump-Shotgun = A Mossberg 500 Marine. Unknown if there is any functional difference.
New Submachine Gun = A supressed MAC-10. The supressor is merely aesthetic, it is also possibly more accurate than L4D1's SMG but this is unconfirmed.
New Autoshotgun = SPAS-12. Unknown if there is any functional difference.
New Assault Rifle = FN SCAR. Unknown if there is any functional difference.
New Hunting Rifle = Scoped H&K G3 (possibly). The hunting rifle now has 30 round magazines rather than 15.
A powerful revolver - details unknown but it will be powerful.
A "bolt action carbine". Details unknown, probably Tier 1 Hunting Rifle.

3 - Melee Weapons introduced (Fire Axe, Frying Pan, Baseball Bat, Chainsaw).

The Axe can cr0wn the witch.
Melee weapons can be picked up in a similar fashion to gas cans from L4D1, if you switch to a gun or press E, you drop the melee weapon.
Melee weapons have two attacks, a main attack and a push attack like all weapons and items in L4D.

4 - Regardless of the new Incendiary Ammo, Molotov's and Pipe bombs still exist in Left 4 Dead 2

Miscellaneous Facts

1 - Doug Lombardi officialy stated in a E3 2009 Gamespot interview that the new gameplay mode, other campaigns, and the new boss infected will be revealed over the summer following the next upcoming events such as PAX 2009.

2 - November 17th 2009 Release (Xbox 360/PC)

3 - The game will be "full price". The actual cost is unknown.

Rumor/Maybe Section

1 - The original survivors (Bill, Zoey, Francis, and Louis) might be playable/useable in Left 4 Dead 2

2 - The Original Left 4 Dead Campaigns may appear in Left 4 Dead 2

3 - New grenades might appear in Left 4 Dead 2

4 - Survivors may be able to double up while reviving another downed survivor. (Valve has said that they're experimenting with gameplay mechanics and used this as an example.)

Basically, unless I'm ranting I'm being sarcastic :)

For the record I think good on valve, they've got as much right to actually make some money off a major update to a run-away hit as any other Dev. Even then, you can't compare Valve releasing a major revision one year later, to EA/Ubi/Activision releasing an incremental update of a so-so game every year.

This sounds good, be funny shooting an arm/leg off and them still coming for you.. sounds cool.

Though I do seem to think this could have been an update as its very similar to the original L4D in being that the basic principle is the same its not like a whole new story just a new town.

Though the updates to the AI/director and all the other adjustments kinda lead it away from just an update.

They could have really given some background or story to the game though other than "Your just plonked into a city/town and have to kill zombies".

Not that theres anything wrong with that as its a great fun shootem up but still I have a point.

Which that is being fixed in 2 aswell, what interests me the most is this "unconfirmed" revolver, one of the main problems(though not really a problem just cant think of a better word atm) is the lack of variety of pistols in L4D1, sure it was your sidearm and a backup gun with unlimited ammo, but it would be nice to have a backup weapon with enough power to knock a norm zombie on it's ass with a single shot on expert, and hope like all fuck that it remains a single weild weapon instead of a dual weild gun. As I doubt the "conman" or the "television reporter" would be able to shoot one of them with a single hand, I know first hand that a couple revolvers can have one hell of a kickback/recoil.

On another note though im really curious about this bolt action carbine aswell, as for a bolt action it'd have to be one hell of a powerful weapon to be even remotely useful.

Don't know if I like the idea of all the campaign's being strung together story wise. I actually kinda liked each campaign being it's own little movie, and it gave the game some originality.

Customisation on weapons would be nice.

The reason I asked for a story was background on the people, explain why, what, how they got where they did, rather than just going this is your character now play.

Then L4d2 is just a clone of L4d1 if they don't add any point of story to it imo or anything out of the already done box
It effectively could be an addon pack since its exactly the same game just new skins on the characters if we pull it to bits more so.

Story is what makes a game decent, like HL, HL2 etc etc from Valve which is why I rate those the best games ever, just like Wolfster rates and loves Halo so much.

Im just sayin thats all its nice to have that extra depth, though effectively it is just a run-n-gun shooter.

The original had no story because you MADE the story. It gave you a setting, randomised the zombies every time you played, and had a level design that allowed you to work together in many different ways to get to the end of it. I prefer that to a shitload of cut scenes.

I also disagree about games needing more story to be decent. Many a good game (and movie) have been ruined by people adding story. Sonic, NiGHTS, many would argue Doom. Some things are better left unsaid and left to the imagination. Everything else on that list of new features more than justifies it being a sequel.

I think we have the wrong idea about what they mean by Story. Dont expect plot twists, cut scenes, or long monologues.

I expect story will be conveyed through charactor and world development.

This time the survivors will be traveling a great distance, the story will give us the reason for this. This happened in L4D but it was more sutel(sp?). Originally the chapters were connected, for example at the end of No Mercy the chopper piolt mentions the he is not well (he is infected) and the second chapter was to begin at the chopper crash site.

In L4D2 the end goal that the charactors are working towards will be clear, in L4D they were trying to reach the army from the start but no one really understood that.

We all loved the charactors in the original but lets face it there wasnt a lot of development with them.

Instead of saying "I hate stairs" the charactor may remark on some thing that the charactors and players experienced earlier in the game, for example "this airport has more damn stairs than that hospital".

The charactor dialogues should also reflect on the changing dynamic of the team. At the beginning they were strangers by the end the should be relating differently to each other after all they have been through. Maybe even a love connection will emerge like the one hinted between Zoey and Frances.

What??? When???

I have no problem with in game character development, but it needs no more than that.

The original characters really have no story to them at all, yet we know Bill as the dirty old man and chronic chain smoker, cool man Louis, closet-gay bikie Francis, and, well, Zoey... The point is, sometimes it's better to simply not spell everything out. The key to any good horror is knowing what should be left unsaid, and while they could have done a little more with the original, we were happily able to become those characters and live in their world for that small period of time, and that's all I want.

Take the opposite of that in the likes of Halo, and some people are completely turned off by the excessive amount of back story which makes the entire world confusing for alot of people.

I guess my general point is that sometimes I like to play a game as opposed to following a script. Each has their place and I liked how much was left to my own imagination in L4D.



If I'm rambling shit it's because my sinuses are about to jump out of my head and you should just ignore me.

Thats exactly it.
I didnt know the chapters were supposedly interlinked because it wasnt obviously shown or explained.

Necris had to tell me this as I kept saying they werent linked or explained how they got to the next chapter.

I dont expect cutscenes as such but at least something interlinking and a reason else it just looks like a slap happy arcade game. L4D is great in the way its a straight in and no fuss shooter but as with any valve game they put a ton of detail and effort in so you expect some depth to it as well to keep the interest there.

For instance of what happened to these dead bodies in the buildings, why is there no survivors in these buildings that I'm collecting ammo in. You occasionally see them dead the bodies so its obvious they died from being a zombie or eaten etc.

Writing on walls is weak half the time I dont read them or even notice it.

I dont even think theres an introduction explaining what happened anyway other than "2 weeks after infection"...

Both explanations from Hiss and Wolf are noted and I accept both sides to the conversation. But I still crave more.. thats my point anyway, I like to know more with Valve games they just have that eerie interest to want to know more.
