Bethesda sent Interplay to court asking that it stops marketing and selling the original Fallout trilogy and to hand over the developing rights and any work done so far on the upcoming MMO spin-off of the Fallout franchise, working title’d Project V13.

Today, court documents reveal that the judge has ruled in the favour of Interplay, allowing them permission to continue developing Project V13, and to continue publishing the original Fallout trilogy, seperately and as a trilogy-pack.

There is no word if Bethesda will appeal against the decision or not.

Not sure how this whole MMO deal panned out, but they should definitely still be allowed to publish the old games they created.

Yeah I agree, if they created the old games they should be able to publish them still.
I loved the original Fallout Series, specially Fallout 2 or was it 3? the top down isometric view, only ran at 640x480 or maybe 800x600.. ahh teh memories.

Also the Brotherhood of steel was a good one too which came a few years later. The new one is ok but still cant beat the original top down view style.

I bought that too, but Tactics wouldnt work. Kept telling me to put in the CD while it was already in there. But 1 + 2 dont require the disc so they were free. :P

Re: The MMO.

Bethesda bought the rights to Fallout from Interplay. As part of the agreement, Interplay retained the rights to develop an MMO based in the universe, and I think some of the other property rights where tied to this. However, there was a clause that Interplay had to demonstrate that development was progressing by a certain date otherwise all rights went to Bethesda. This is what the court case was (initially) over, from what I understand
yo listen up here's a story
about a little guy that lives in a blue world
and all day and all night and everything he sees
is just blue like him inside and outside
blue his house with a blue little window
and a blue corvette
and everything is blue for him and hisself
and everybody around
cos he ain't got nobody to listen to

i'm blue da ba dee da ba die...

Interesting. I guess they went overtime then? Still, why bring up the sale of the old games? Unless the details of them owning the franchise were far from clear.
