EA has announced they will be removing many servers for their sports title coming just 1 month away on February 2nd, 2010 for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and the PC.

Among one of the titles is Madden 09 which I believe it may be too soon. The closing of ‘09 servers makes it seem as if EA is just eagerly ridding of their $60 games and have it last only a year for online play. I do believe some of the games they’re looking to drop are justified considering sports titles usually do not last more than 2 to 3 years but ‘09?

Yes, you can still play in single player mode but there is just only that much comp stomping you can take before moving onto another title. So, I wonder why there’s no private server support? Here’s what EA has to say about the whole server shut down:

All of us at EA would like to thank you for your valued participation in our online gaming community and hope that your enthusiasm for these games extends to our current lineup and beyond.

Quite a disappointment to me, especially towards all the fans and communities that have been developed. The list of servers that will be removed are listed below. What do you guys think?

February 2, 2010 Online Service Shutdown
UEFA Champions League 07 PC and x360
Facebreaker x360 and PS3
Fantasy Football 09 x360 and PS3
FIFA 07 PSP, PS2, PC
Fight Night Round 3 PS2
Madden 08 Wii
Madden 08 PC
Madden 09 Xbox1
Madden 09 Wii and PSP
March Madness 07 x360
NBA 07 PSP, x360
NBA 08 PS2, PSP, Wii
NBA 09 Wii – Europe only
NBA Street (2007) PS3 and x360
NCAA Football 08 PS2
NCAA Football 09 PS2
NASCAR 08 PS2
NASCAR 09 PS2
NASCAR 09 PS3 and x360 – Europe Only
NFL Tour PS3 and x360
NHL 07 PSP and x360
NHL 08 PC
Tiger Woods 07 PC
Madden 09 x360 and PS3
Madden 07 Xbox 360

Seriously, Madden 09 already??? If this is supposed to encourage us to keep buying the latest version, then it's done the opposite. I don't even play these games online all that much, I'm just insulted by them thinking we're too dumb to know what shit they're pulling.

Which is why alot of people don't. Myself included. I pick up a sports game of the same type usually no less than three years apart. I don't jump on until I can see a significant reason to do so. I did buy Madden 09 because of the many good reviews it received, but the last grid iron game I had bought before that was NFL2K on the Dreamcast. It's people like me that they're screwing.

I guess Madden doesnt get as much support or players to it than say FIFA?
I know a few friends of mine play Madden on 360 but its not as popular as FIFA is I'd have thought. Although I'd say its bigger in the USA being american football mad over there.

I stopped buying EA Sport games a long time ago cos they're just pumping em out too frequent too fast.

this is just fucked. EA have been incredibly schizophrenic recently. On the one hand they have actively tried to buck their image with releases liker Dead Space, and a genuine improvement in franchises like FIFA which is now considered to be better than Pro Evo.

Then they do shit like this, closing servers of a game but a year old. That sucks, I don't know what to think now.....
yo listen up here's a story
about a little guy that lives in a blue world
and all day and all night and everything he sees
is just blue like him inside and outside
blue his house with a blue little window
and a blue corvette
and everything is blue for him and hisself
and everybody around
cos he ain't got nobody to listen to

i'm blue da ba dee da ba die...

You know what would be nicer? If they just released a patch for these games that let you local host it, like every other game on Live that isn't made by them.

Because they have the sole rights to NFL if people want to play online they will need to upgrade. Thats the only reason they are doing it for Madden 09 only and have not done it to the other sports games. I think the NFL should step in on issues like this.

Good point!

It probably makes them money as well, so long as it wasn't a flat rate license. Even if it was, they lose nothing out of it. It's just a money making prick act that no business is going to care about.

Yeah when EA saw that NFL2K5 was one of the best NFL games ever made, they just bought the sole rights to the NFL rather than actually improve gameplay and what have you. Typical EA :sigh:

I don't hink patches are effected. I believe they're all kept on MS's servers and not EA's. You just jump from Live to EA servers for multi.
