Given the "disproportionate contribution" that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 provided to Activision Blizzard's well-padded bottom line, it won't come as a surprise that the next Call of Duty game is coming this holiday season. See? You're not surprised.

Activision Blizzard confirmed its plans to "continue annualizing" the first-person shooter franchise with the still-unnamed seventh entry in the billion dollar Call of Duty series, offering little new info. But executives did talk briefly about the game's release window and their desire to see some subscription-style revenue from the series.

"If you think about the successes we have had in other categories on subscriptions, you can get a sense of the direction we want to take that franchise," Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said during today's quarterly earnings call, not specifying exactly when it planned to take such steps.

Execs expected a less "friendly" release window in 2010 than the one that Modern Warfare 2 had in 2009, when publishers, including Activision, shifted games from the fourth quarter to the next year.

While Activision Blizzard brass did not name the developer of the next major Call of Duty game, developer Treyarch has been linked to the next iteration.

all quite disturbing really. A treyarch developed off-year COD with subscription elements.

They need to be careful about killing the brand as well... they're treading a fine line, a shit game may cause people to think twice about buying the next "proper" Infinity Ward version. Actually, what the fuck am I saying, the masses lap up anything with COD in the title, the brands safe.

There was a long gap between COD2 and COD4 though. It's still my opinion that COD2 was the best of the lot, and many people were keen to see Infinity Wards next attempt. PC never even saw COD3 so that crowd were even more hungry.

Lots of emphisis on "Subscription", Battlefield BC is looking more appealing each day. I i prefer Treyarch, at least they gave us a region filter and fixed problems as they arissed.

MAG is where it's at now. I wasn't impressed by BBC2 demo, and MW2 MP got old real fast.

Call of Duty 7: Black Ops (CoD7) is the next game in the massive Call of Duty (CoD) franchise. In a recent report on Tek9, Activision shared some details about the new CoD game.

Black Ops is scheduled for release in November 2010 and sources indicate the game developed by Treyarch will be set in history, between World War II and present day. It is also hinted that some of the missions will take gamers to Cuba and South America which hints at a Cold War and Vietnam based game.

How many more fucking perspectives can they do from different people in WW2 or Vietnam. et-fucking-cetera.

"oh i know, lets do ww2 game again, but this time from the personal chef of Hitler"

.. who fucking cares, all he did was cook crab cakes for fucks sake.

I would copy it here if it made much sense, but a foreign site is reporting that this new COD: Black Ops includes the ability to fly helicopters. Looks like Blitz is selling his soul.

Hm yeah but, is it really any good or just another MW/MW2 or those COD stupid franchise bombardments they do.

It did look interesting from the video but, I think im over the COD linear scripted games, theres just no freedom to move.
Sandbox games are where its at, open world etc.

I've been saying this about all of the FPS shooters that are popular, FOREVER.

Then when a game like FarCry 2 comes out, no-one plays it! If your hand isn't being held the whole way a giant destination marker is there to guide you.. When COD4 came out and people were saying it was the best game ever, it just made me cringe and vomit

BFBC2 is exactly the same now, went from open landscapes to tight paths.

Nothing wrong with some structured story and events if done right IMO. You can't build the suspense, drama or horror anywhere near as well in an open sandbox and I'm a fan of good story. Two different approaches all together.

Agreed. But most of the games that dont use openworld are always a re-hashed scenario or theme, look at COD its the same thing over and over.

MW2 was great, but it needs some spice, else they just keep following the same route, they need to think of something new and inventive to really drag me into buying more of the series rather than guiding me like a mouse in a tunnel to the necessary points in the game, most are like following a set path through buildings or approaching the same way everytime, if you deviate you die or get punished without the ability to improvise and have alternative solution/result - MW Sniper mission map for example.

But the main thing that annoys me about linear is the damn hot spots or trigger lines that they use to activate stuff along with the same scripted AI, I want random stuff, sure storyline triggers are ok for small parts but the rest should be open and random.

Im probably babbling anyway as im so hungry i dont even know what im typing and even if it makes any sense.
Time to eat.
