I was falling asleep in it. The first gears was intense enemies where hard you died lots. I remember getting constantly destroyed by wretches.

Gown was an snooze fest only really died when I was doing stupid things to starve of the boredom. Not strategy was needed just point lance and squeezes trigger until they die.

I only played it for the story which when no where. The big emotional scene was a joke nothing compared to Dom killing his wife in gears 2.

The end gave me the expression that these mysteries we've been guessing since gow 1 the writer didn't even know the answers to them.

All in an absolute shit game, wish I didn't buy it.

I'm with hiss. I must admit there wasn't the spectacle of gears 2 but it was a more than satisfying conclusion to the series. I hate to say it, halo fan that I am, but overall the story arc was much better than halo's.

The fact it's all three games within a single generation helps as well.

I had a thought while playing - at first, I was a bit miffed by the fact that some of the major expositions happen quite quickly, ie blink and you'll miss them. But then I remembered all those crappy sic-fi/action shows I've watched where shit is raining down all around and the characters take 10 minutes out to discuss the latest revelation or how they feel about it - and thinking "why are you standing around talking, there's still a bomb to defuse/war going on etc". Then I was glad didn't feel the need for a ten minute cutscenes for every reveal.

Edit - what difficulty did you play on wolf? Also, three games in it's natural not to be dying as much as you did in the first...

The difficulty is definitely a bit easier than the original, but I don't doubt Insane would sort that out.

I have no idea what you're on about with the story though. It all made sense, it was answered, no loose ends and it felt complete. It's funny you mention Maria in Gears 2 because I thought that was the part lacking build up and a bit of depth, and even Epic agree, but I think they redeemed that particular story with this one.

I agree with Blue. I much preferred the Gears story to Halo.

Some DLC news that strangely went on-topic...

Quote:

Design director Cliff Bleszinski of Epic has revealed that the studio is working on DLC for Gears of War 3 that put's comic series Hollow star Barrick up front.

It'll feature "all new campaign content" that is devoid of main guys "Marcus, Dom, Cole and Baird". Bleszinski teases to expect Barrick "and more..."

"No, it won't be the graphic novel, but it will have all new campaign content that doesn't have Marcus, Dom, Cole and Baird in it. Expect Barrick and more..." posted Cliff Bleszinski on NeoGAF. The Epic executive also addressed Gears of War 3's story on the forum.

"I'm not going to defend our story here, those who love it and get it truly adore it. You can find plot holes in nearly anything, from Lord of the Rings to Dark Knight. Story, like any art, can be somewhat subjective and is easy to pick on," he posted.

"The GAF crowd can be somewhat cynical. If you go to Youtube and look up many of the cutscenes deemed "silly" or "cheesy" on here the majority of the comments over there cite how the scenes moved them, made them misty eyed, or out and out made them cry."

"And those of you citing Cole as some bad stereotype - guys, that's just Lester being Lester. We introduced Jace as a more laid back character as a contrast Cole's enthusiasm. (which, after playing his sequence, is his way of overcompensating for not being the center of the universe and having to risk his neck for a can of beans now along with some aches and pains,)" continued Bleszinski.

"I believe we're getting better at storytelling with each effort and the critical consensus is that this is the best Gears narrative yet, and we'll keep doing better in the future."

"You can pick anything to shreds on the internet because you've got the time and balls afforded to you by a keyboard and monitor." Surely arguing, or trying to point something out to gamers on a forum is like kicking the tide? Fun, initially, but going nowhere.

I think playing through as the co-op partner took a bit away from the emotional impact of the events that happened in the game. The focus wasn't on what I was doing and I was continuously jumping around from player to player (Dom, Baird, Snoop Dog Guy and Blonde Chick). I think playing through solely, without a co-op partner, as Marcus and Cole would have made the events a bit more meaningful.

It's not a game, it's a simple comparison of the 360's two main franchises and my total bafflement as to how Gears can be critisised for it's story yet I've never heard anyone say a peep about Halo other than if they liked it or not. Halo exists in a world where alot of it's story exists in terminals and other media outside the game. Those are great for the kind of people that like to dig around in the experience, but I always felt the core experience lacked impact in places because of my own lack of knowledge. The Gears story, to me, is much more up front and has you along for the ride. It's feels more focused and has you right at the centre of the lens. That to me just makes it feel more captivating.

Got to say though, I dont usually buy games for the single player, its either for the multi or co op sides of the games, when I want a single player game I get it on the PS3 nowadays.

Blue - Did you end up getting the Model Retro Lancer?
Post some pics if so.

Also whats the go with them on about Cole being a stereo type?
Im guessing its the typical musclebound black footballer?
