SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced plans to bring classic titles from its popular Dreamcast™ console to Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation®Network later this year. Sonic Adventure™ and Crazy Taxi™ will be the first two classics made available, with Sonic leading the pack in Autumn 2010 for the 11th anniversary of the launch of the Dreamcast in Europe.

Each game is based on the original Dreamcast incarnation, featuring all of the gameplay that older players fell in love with, whilst allowing a new audience to discover it for the very first time. The games incorporate all-new enhancements and features such as high resolution visuals and surround sound. Online leader boards are now implemented, allowing players to compare their skills with friends across the world! In addition to this, all-new Achievement and Trophy integration will be available for each game released.

Launched in Europe on October 14, 1999, the SEGA Dreamcast is one of the most beloved and critically acclaimed consoles of all time. Featuring a software library of over 650 titles, the system was widely hailed as being ahead of its time, and was the first to introduce online console gaming, with Internet support for games through an inbuilt modem.

“The Dreamcast is fondly remembered by a large community of dedicated fans as a console that was ahead of its time in terms of graphics, quality and online gaming” commented Haruki Satomi, VP of Digital Business at SEGA of America and SEGA Europe. “There are few things that are more requested from us than making Dreamcast classics available for download in today’s digital market place. We’re very excited to begin offering gamers our beloved Dreamcast titles again on the current console systems.”

Sonic Adventure will be available for download in Autumn 2010. Both Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi will be on display at SEGA’s booth (#2023) at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Nice couple of games to start with! I'd say that if they're going to release Shenner's, they'll work up to it. What could be next? Jet Set Radio? Skies of Arcadia? Daytona would be sweet but it might get pushed back since they're converting the original... Sega Rally 2?

You've never played Sonic Adventure Blitz??? What about the second one?

I agree, the original Crazy Taxi is still by far the best. Beautifully balanced, the best set of characters, the world was great to rip around and the soundtrack was brilliant.

Yeah, Kenji made a blunder. Jet Set Radio FUTURE was the sequel on the Xbox. I still think I prefer the Dreamcast original in that case as well. They changed the characters a bit in the second one. If you haven't played it Kenji, I would write it off just yet. It's one of those games that seemed to have difficulty getting people interested in it, but once you start playing - very enjoyable! Alot of character and charm and it flows really well.

As for other games... Of the top of my head -

Seaman
Space Channel 5
Phantasy Star Online
Grandia 2
Chu Chu Rocket
Toy Commando
Ecco the Dolphin
Sonic Shuffle had the potential to be fun if it wasn't for the horrendous load times. It was a Sonic version of Mario Party.

It had alot of really good third party games which I'm not sure they'll be able to release. Would be good to see the original two Ready 2 Rumble's get released. I was rather fond of Hydro Thunder. Power Stone 2 was rather awesome.

I was a big fan of a very interesting little underwater game called Deep Fighter. It was about a race of tiny underwater people and your ship was the size of a bottle top.

There was also a game called Armada. It was a top down shooter, up to 4 player co-op if I remember right. It was like a 2D version of Privateer in alot of ways. It was a free roam game where you could trade between space ports to build up cash, do missions in between and try and get strong enough to push the evil armada out of the galaxy. You could pick from a bunch of different races with different abilities as well. Clever little game that was ignored for it's 2D style, but would be a massive winner as a download these days. I think the dev house went broke though. They were working on the sequel and I know it got canned.

No Sonic Adventures for me :(

Only the golden Classics for Mega Drive; Sonic, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic CD, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Pinball

and then a few of the atrocities that call themselves sonic games today ^o)

of course it wasn't! :)

I assumed it was a DC title.. I don't remember seeing it on other consoles so I thought that because it was a Sega game :)
