Game graphics are getting better but I dont think the GPU chip in the box is actually any different to what we have now. Dunno why 360 dont go to Blueray or something bigger for games. |

I think what they've been able to do is effectively have the 2 in one. So they each have their own core's and threads still. Having them integrated like this makes for a more efficient design (only one set of caps required to manage the power they're given etc etc etc). Also, the heat sink now doesn't have to be so large. |

Way too much effort for very little return, is probably the reason. The other major reason would be the fact that everyone that owns the previous versions of the console including everyone on OSG would be screaming and yelling about how they're now forced to buy the slim because the new games will be on bluray and can't be read by our consoles. A major change like this will only come with a next gen console. |

Yeah, but only because our current 360's will have broken in that time and we'll have had to buy a new one.... oh.. and Jams, having both the GPU and CPU on the same die can potentially improve performance as there's the potential for much higher bandwidth between the two. It won't affect 360 though as it's not built that way. |

I would have thought having individual chips gives them their own dedication processing, like in a PC the graphics cards of today handle the graphics without using the CPU, integrated stuff was always terrible. Like the intel boards with integrated video chipset which leeches your main memory. Either way hopefully the new 360 is pretty solid, I might get one just for the fact that its a bigger HDD. and Kinect ready, oh also the optical audio, im sick of having that stupid dongle hanging out the back on the old Elite. Thankfully the new elite seems pretty good since I've had it its not had any issues, other than the DVD rom drive when thers no disc in it, once it closes fully the drive makes some awful motorised noise.. wtf is with that. |

Integrated graphics chips are not quite the same. They're generally a seperate chip, on the motherboard. The reason they suck is that they used shared memory and are underpowered. It's no different from having an underpowered 'independant' card that also uses shared memory.... Essentially, a multi-core chip (or cell processor) is a set of multiple chips on the same die. And there's no reason why two chips on the same die *have* to use shared memory. I was just making the point though that having multiple 'chips' (or rather, processing units) on the same die is not necessarily a bad thing. Doesn't mean squat with the 360 though, as I doubt they're re-engineered the architecture beyond putting both chips on the same die. |

Probably not so much, I doubt they'd be a mad rush to get em, depends on your local store though whether they get enough in stock or in a popular area to sell a ton of em. Might be best to wait a bit till they do some sale or something and let the other peons test it for problems first. |

Wolfster was talking last night saying he read reviews saying the new 360 gets hot like 56-58degrees (while this is about normal for a PC CPU operating conditions) its not for the outer casing, saying that touching the case was red hot. Still going to wait on that see if the lemmings who buy it first notice any flaws, before I decide to get one. |
