Jens has today revealed that there is going to be a lot of individual crafting recipes in Minecraft Beta 1.8.

Jens commented on the social networking site Twitter that “Minecraft’s start log now states there are 160 crafting recipes”, he did however then add “I don’t remember what it used to be”.

With 160 tools and objects to create, alongside all the new content added such as the Enderman mob and NPC villages, Minecraft beta 1.8 is shaping up to be an almost game changing update.

Straight from PAX Prime 2011: Notch has made survival in Minecraft more precarious by introducing a hunger meter. This hunger meter complements the health meter and will either prevent any health gained from food unless it is full or it will slowly empty to heal you.

That means you’re going to have to eat your fill then you can start gaining health from food afterwards. It looks like having a wheat farm and loads of bread in tow will become more of a necessity.

Don’t care about the hunger meter or your health because you can just respawn anyway? Well if you die in the next Minecraft update then you will lose experience. If you’ve ever played a game that made you lose experience on death.. well, you aren’t going to be taking as many risks, I assure you.

Skill points will be in the game but Mojang has said that they aren’t sure what to do with them yet. NPCs and villages will also be added in the update and players can also expect to encounter new enemies.

What’s planned so far in the Adventure Update?

Hunger meter
Experience/Skill points
Experience loss on death
Endermen – Teleporting enemies who stare at you (vulnerable to water)
Silverfish – Hidden inside of blocks (now that’s scary)
NPCs and Villages
Random dungeons
Sprinting
Creative mode on Survival servers
Biome changes
Critical hits
Improved farming
Dynamic archery

We can expect the Adventure Update sometime in November. I can’t wait to seriously run for my life again in survival. The Adventure Update is looking to be a doozy.

You pull the arrow back, id say the longer you hold it the further/more damage it goes/does.

Really getting pumped for 1.8! The pax demo version should be out around next Friday.

Been thinking about our server and I think we should reset at 1.8, in the new world we should set longitudinal and latitudinal boundaries to minimize rendered chunks so we have plenty of room for new stuff for the official release. I think this would also foster a community vibe before we all go off and buil our own mega cities.

Maybe 300 block by 300 block would be enough, maybe less.

What do my fellow miners think?

Well, when a new world is created I'll Make a concerted effort to take part. I think a smaller space is a good idea, perhaps we can collectively build brandens mega-city.
yo listen up here's a story
about a little guy that lives in a blue world
and all day and all night and everything he sees
is just blue like him inside and outside
blue his house with a blue little window
and a blue corvette
and everything is blue for him and hisself
and everybody around
cos he ain't got nobody to listen to

i'm blue da ba dee da ba die...

Yeah i think it would be cool to all build together for a bit instead of just working on our own projects.

Maybe we can suggest some ideas and decide as a group? once the full release is out in november it would be fun leaving our town/city for the first time to explore.

I really like the idea of a village, houses and building connected by paths and lit by glowstone street lamps.

We might be bummed if the final release needs another map reset for all the final features... I've not being following development closely enough to know if that's a possibility....

As far as i know there has never been any forced resets. New stuff will appear in any undiscovered chunks. The reason im suggesting a reset is mainly because i know i have personally traveled pretty far all over our world so we would have to go pretty far for new stuff.

Also the biomes (sp?) are now going to be generated differently and will not link up with old chunks too well.

I thought there where a bunch of updates where you needed a new map for the new biomes to generate?

I think that if there is a new server that goes up we should do similar to what we did in the first server that was put up, make a big town hall kind of thing where everyone can work out of to get started, general meeting place etc etc. knowing my luck i'd be doing all the hard stuff again :P
