Anyone else playing this?

Got stuck into it last night.......God its pretty  Its been awhile since ive really gawked at scenary visuals in a game, but the initial outside experience in this game had me at hello. Nothing too overly special about gameplay, just it all fits in well.

Only gripes;
- Lack of free looking whilst driving (Cameras Fixed)
- I think the movements are set too fast. Feels like im constantly running flat out.
- Might be my system or settings but i'll get a line across the screen that will sort of distort things as you look around quickly

Also, loved the Doom Bobble Head character on the Buggy at the start of the game :D

Other than it looking good:

Whats it about?
Whats the overall consensus on this is it anything new and inventive or just a typical FPS shooter?

Really in two minds. I loves me some good graphics, but don't want to get burnt out on two many FPS's what with bf3, halo anniversary and mw3 upcoming.

Blitz, is the line 'screen tear'? ie does it look sort of fractured, or actually blurry?
yo listen up here's a story
about a little guy that lives in a blue world
and all day and all night and everything he sees
is just blue like him inside and outside
blue his house with a blue little window
and a blue corvette
and everything is blue for him and hisself
and everybody around
cos he ain't got nobody to listen to

i'm blue da ba dee da ba die...

Blitz prob needs to turn on V-Sync, generally that 'line' across the screen when looking around is likely to be screen tearing.
Prob looks like the top 1/3 of the screen splits from the bottom or something like that, doesn't keep up with looking around type of thing.
Though if you turn it on Blitz your frame rate will be capped at the refresh rate of your monitor. e.g 60hz = 60fps.

BF3 does tear a bit for me but its very hard to notice as much as some other games, so I don't bother putting v-sync on, I hate capping my FPS for stuff like that.

Rage shouldn't screen tear from what I've read, that's the weird thing. Supposed to be locked 60fps and it scales on the fly to ensure that. You can try forcing v-sync at driver level blitz if that's what it is, and it's disturbing to look at.

The question I need to ask I guess is, is it worth a purchase just for the graphics alone. Bear in mind I'm a grhics whore, but I'd be expecting something unique graphics wise ie scale, scope, level of detail beyond anything else out there...

yes its pretty, and the gameplay aint bad at all, but, if you are 50/50 about getting it, wait 6 months for it to go on sale.

if you want pretty, max out 2033 or witcher 2.

Don't forget Blue you can buy from www.g2play.net and get it for like.. $45AU or there abouts and its a steam key version and/or get Witcher 2 included in that for an additional $15.

I was going to get this perhaps since I don't want to pay $90 for pc games, $40ish isn't bad.

Before I buy though I'd like to know what its about really, seems its just a run n gun type game, but is there much to it like levelling up the main character, upgrade/mod weapons and so on?

I should check out the game play footage for an idea but wanted to get more feedback from you guys more than a biased review as such.

not really any levelling up, but weapon and ammo upgrades, making items ets, its very very rpg lite, it almost pure FOS, just really pretty, and linear doesnt mean bad, look at metro 2033.

How similar is it to Fallout? Thinking of getting it on PS3, haven't played a shooter in so long.

I remember Metro, I think I've got it on steam in the sales, ill have to check cos I might play that.
But for $40 for Rage, I might give it a go.

I like some RPG elements where you can put custom items on weapons and upgrade them and also level the characters attributes as well.. I guess similar to Fallout I suppose or Borderlands.

The early hours of Rage's PC launch were plagued with problems, and many still linger as of this writing. Nvidia cards are still prone to screen tearing, while AMD cards see issues with freezing and wonky character animations. You need to do some research to determine the best drivers for your system, and even then, you may be stuck suffering through some glitches. There aren't a lot of graphics settings to tweak here, and even on high settings, Rage is inconsistent. Some textures look stunning, while others are blurry and mundane upon closer inspection. These technical shortcomings make the PC version inferior to its console counterparts, but the excellent artistic design still shines through, making Rage an attractive and enticing game.

Rage is better enjoyed on an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, but regardless of which platform you play on, it still offers a rich and rewarding adventure.
