An anonymous user seems to have leaked a whole bunch of details regarding Nintendo’s upcoming console. Read through the lot below.

The System:

Uses a custom IBM triple-core CPU running at 3.6GHz per core
The development kit contains 1gb RAM, but Nintendo have hinted that the console will actually have 1.5gb
Nintendo will be releasing games that will run 1080p natively. Sources say that with Nintendo’s art style and the power the system has, the games look ‘stunning’.
The system does run on AMD R700 card, but the architecture is slightly different and the clock speeds are much higher.
The System resembles JPN/EU SNES machines in color only and not in shape
The development kit is about the size of a 360, not the console
Close sources say it’s as if Nintendo is in “damage control” with 3rd party developers. Nintendo is trying really hard to get 3rd parties on board to develop games and have offered incentives such as not releasing big-title Nintendo games in holiday seasons to compete against 3rd party titles.
Nintendo went to many 3rd party developers on guidance on what they were after with the new console in terms of system specs, controller and online system.

The Controller:

Nintendo have been keeping this really quiet and have only given developers controller prototypes to start designing games. However, the final controller build with all the features have only been given to Nintendo 1st and 2nd party developers for now.
Nintendo had planned on inserting a screen on the controller back when the Gamecube was in development, but opted out due to technology not being advanced enough to be functional
The controller that’s been given to developers has a large 5.7inch hd (960x640pixel) screen, 2 analogue sticks, 4 face buttons, 3 middle buttons (select/home/start in that order), 2 shoulder buttons and 2 triggers.
The triggers aren’t as deep as the 360’s triggers, but have plenty of push
The big thing about the screen is that it’s a multi-touch screen, contains it’s own battery and is detachable from the controller unit
The screen when detached contains its own memory so developers can store data on it, so gamers can play whatever the developer designs for the screen-only use
When the screen is attached to the controller it works by streaming content directly from the console
Nintendo are giving developers ideas other than just having it function as a quick menu screen for games while attached, or as a simple tamagochi-like mini-game when detached
The controller contains a gyroscope, but motion controls isn’t the focus of the controller like it was for the Wii

Games:

Nintendo will release a Mario platformer as a launch title which hasn’t been done since the N64.
The Mario platformer looks to be the spiritual successor to Mario 64.
Gamefreak and EAD are hard at work developing a Pokemon online RPG.
The Pokemon RPG is not an MMO, but does have a large online emphasis and will be Nintendo’s flagship title when showing off the online capabilities of the console.
There will be at least one new IP Nintendo will reveal at E3.
Nintendo is working on a new Zelda, but didn’t reveal anything to developers.

Other:

Some developers have had the Wii 2 dev kit for going on 2 years now. When the Wii 2 is released in late, that’s 3 years to develop games on.
Because of such generous development time, Nintendo have pushed 3rd parties to develop high quality games to be released at or near launch.
Nintendo have sourced an external company to develop their online network, which the developer has commented, surpasses both the PS3 and 360 in terms of speed and functionality.
Nintendo is pushing for the console to be online 24/7 and have seamless online integration with many of their games
Friend codes are confirmed to be gone
Nintendo has been toying with the idea of a game where the main character is your Mii
Nintendo will be pushing their Pokemon RPG to showcase their online network
Rockstar are supposedly hard at work in bringing on of their “most popular” titles to the console.

Most of the information makes sense and might prove out to be true. We’ll have to wait a couple of more days to find out for ourselves though.

This leak seems to be carrying some weight, and is detailed enough to believe it's isn't just some gossip fluff.

If these are true, then Nintendo have indeed gotten their act together. That's a console I can get behind.

I dunno, the games they're promoting just seem like old stuff they're diggin up from years back.. Zelda? Mario, Pokemon... jees make something new and original for a change instead of re-hashing old stuff and catering for children.

I do like mario but its like Nintendo just keep holding on to it constantly (i know its their mascot) and it (console) still has that childish cartoon-like portrayal to me what with the games they make and push out.

Maybe this might move away from that I'd have to see but for me the PS3 and 360 are my main hardcore machines, I fell fowl of the Wii years back so I doubt Ill get the new Wii. The first didnt have that much pull to keep me entertained on it so it feels like a waste sitting in the box still.

They're clearly aiming to re-spark some of that N64 magic. There's nothing wrong with more Mario and Zelda when they are of the quality that was Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time. Those games pushing the boundaries on top end hardware are system sellers. Just because they're lacking blood and guts doesn't make them for kids.

The N64 was also a period where they embraced the third parties, as much as it eventually shit them to tears to be trapped into the cartridge format. This is the console that had us all playing 4 player Golden Eye, Perfect Dark and Turok (is the cranium drill still not the most awesomely gory weapon ever?). They've made alot of money marketing themselves as an accessable family console, but they have dished out some of the best adult oriented games in the past.

Every gen is a whole new ball game as far as direction goes. You shouldn't write it off just because of the Wii just yet.

Yeah, first thing they need to announce is a new name so I don't asscoiate it with wankers eating over priced food and sipping latte's next to the gutter. What happened to the cool names like the Black Belt and the Evolution?

It was called a cerebral bore, and yes it was the coolest weapon ever.

Specs look interesting, very much along the lines of what Digital Foundry "guessed" as well so certainly within the realms of possibility. I'm a bit bored with console gaming at the moment so fingers crossed this reignited the spark.
yo listen up here's a story

Ah yes! My bad. I thought the name was off but my brain is fried. It's amazing how badly they've totally fucked the Turok games after they had them so right, isn't it?

Yep. I'm waiting for a reboot that captures the old magic - massive environments, and blowing up dinosaurs with insane weapons.

The N64 was ace at drawing huge environments - remember the awful pop up in most Psone games, then compare to the draw distance on the dam level in goldeneye.

Controller looks quite cool.

Seems the idea is along the lines of the old GB-Gamecube hook up, i won't be surprised if you can only have one of the new controllers active.

The new name sucks though... I can see ma and pa being confused... Did jonny say a Wii or a Wii u? Cue disappointed jonny when he gets the cheaper Wii for Christmas.

There's no real confirmed specs of substance, but so far I'm unimpressed. Seems more like a catch up than a new gen, and I really wish they'd just dropped the Wii title and compatibility and moved on. I think they're lack of testicles to let go has dragged this one down a bit. It seems it has just been confirmed that they're still using DVD's.

As for the controller, while I applaud the fact that people are running with the idea Sega had with the Dreamcast, what exactly is stopping Sony from shitting all over this with a PS3/PSVita bluetooth connection? The PSVita may just well end up being the bane of Nintendo's existance once this E3 is over, after they already crapped all over the 3DS's price point.

So not DVD's, but not Blu Ray's either. They've gone for their own format.

Quote:

In a wide-ranging interview with Kotaku regarding the new Wii U console, one of Nintendo's chief game designers, Katsuya Eguchi, confirmed that the system's proprietary disc format will hold 25 Gigabytes of data. That squares with our own reporting from before E3 and puts Nintendo in a good place to run games that fill up a single-layer 25GB Blu-Ray disc, the format used by current console king of large game discs, the PlayStation 3.

Eguchi declined to comment on our report, from the same people who told us about the 25GB, that the system's internal flash memory is 8GB. Earlier today, a Nintendo rep explained that the new console will support external USB drives, for added storage capacity.

Controller seems like they're definantly sticking to family/kiddy markets. I can't see it being practical for FPS's or other game genres other than Mario and mii party games ect

I agree, the screen is either a bit too big, or it's a little awkwardly designed. There are plenty of uses for it though. Remove the entire hud from a FPS and put your health and weapon selection on the screen, set up quick formation options in a soccer game, play poker with mates in the same room, and it was already used very effectively for grid iron games on the Dreamcast so your mate can't see your plays. The DC VMU was limited by it's small LCD screen, but they still found some great uses for it. I'm surprised it took this long for the idea to be dragged up with technology. Much rather the screen than fucking motion controllers...
