Holy crap! Where did this come from! Optimised for iPad2 as well! Just popped up last night for around $5 and clocking in at around 450Mb.

Now all I need is a port of Alpha Centauri... Am I dreaming? Probably.

You've never played it Wolfman???? It's not Civ at all, but it's still got a very clear vein of Sid-style strategy to it. You have to play out a lifetime as a pirate, siding with an empire and then forming alliances or fighting wars with other empires, taking over and stealing from cities, chatting up chicks, finding parts of treasure maps, battling ships to increase your fleet, taking out the more notorious pirates above you and slowly finding your kidnapped family. Each game yo play is on the same map, but things like hideouts and treasure all get shuffled so you have to explore it all again. Constantly replayable.

The Xbox version was fucking brill. I still play it on my 360 because it's backwards compatible. The Wii version added a few things with customisations and what not, but felt more disjointed than it should. Won't get to play the iPad version till I get home, but so far I'm hearing it's more like the Xbox one with the extra Wii stuff.

Actually, even better, this is apparently the full Mac version of the game which is just a port of the PC version. As complete as it gets. Better than the PSP version which was the only reason I still carry that thing around!

Turns out it's only that cheap for a few days though guys. It'll go up to about $7 after that.

Also, they seemed to have dropped the price of Civ for the iPad down to $7 to go along with it. The iPad version is excellent! Far more playable than the iPhone version as they actually redesigned it properly for the bigger screen instead of taking the easy route of just upping the res.

Pirates is one of those games I've read lots about but never got around to playing. Just got the iPad version. Very cool. It's one of the better iPad games I've played as well, the control system is well suited and the graphics stunning.

The in game rendering looks better than the cutscenes!
yo listen up here's a story
about a little guy that lives in a blue world
and all day and all night and everything he sees

I think I had a problem with the textures working properly. Might need a reboot. But regardless, bloody great version of the game. Highly playable, and I'm spewing I can't play it right this second. It's sitting right here next to me...

Wish I had my iPad when I used to be locked inside a datacentre for 12 hours a day. Would have been easier than hooking up my Dreamcast to the work monitors...

No texture issues for me. If you're on iOS 4 make sure you kill all the background apps.

I hope iOS 5 has better memory management. Or at least an easier way of killing what apps are running in "multitasking" mode, or better yet choosing which ones do.

It was only on things close up like when the ships are in the docks. I'm not one to be bothered by such things hiding behind such stellar gameplay.

It's hard to justify buying either as I have like $40 worth of game on my pad that I've played for less than 5min each.

Well, Pirates is worth it. I've spent way too much on games, but then at a couple of bucks a pop I don't mind if I only play it for 5-10 minutes. As long as it amuses me for a while. But I can actually see myself dipping into pirates for 10-15 minutes periodically, it's like a seafaring version of Elite. You can jump in, do a bit of trading, go exploring or attack a couple of ships for 5-10 minutes... Then look up and see an hours past..

If I could have only two games on my iPad then it would be Civ and Pirates. No competition. I have alot of quality stuff, but they always suck way more than 5 minutes out of you, have been ported with care, and are a new experience every time while still being totally familiar. The only reason you might pick Pirates over Civ is the price.
