Don't Fear the Reaper downloaded the other week, a Megadeth pack before that, and now they've announced Pearl Jam songs (don't know what yet) will be up next week.

There's also a patch tonight to update a heap of things like improving the practice mode, adding precision tuning, and and a very not to subtle hint that bass support is extremely close.

It's criminal that only the US has this game/worlds-most-awesome-learning-tool still. Makes me want to buy a bass and be prepared, but I still suck at guitar.

Nope. They still haven't even discussed the Europe release since the last minute law suit. You would imagine we're tied up in that.

Hiss, have you seen/played the iOs rip-off of this, "rock prodigy"? I downloaded it and had a quick mess about, interesting but it didn't quite grab me. I'm going to get my dad using it though (he took up guitar a few years ago, has been saying he wants to progress beyond open chords and basic closed)
yo listen up here's a story
about a little guy that lives in a blue world
and all day and all night and everything he sees
is just blue like him inside and outside
blue his house with a blue little window
and a blue corvette
and everything is blue for him and hisself
and everybody around
cos he ain't got nobody to listen to

i'm blue da ba dee da ba die...

Yeah, I've had Rock Prodigy for a while. Can't really call is a rip off because it did come first.

You're right, good attempt for a small studio and it works decent with my iRig setup. I did give it a bit of a run, but I can't touch now since Rocksmith. It's far more accurate, easier to follow, and way way more engaging. Kudos to the Rock Prodigy guys for giving real guitar teaching a good crack, but it's really only just beyond an interactive tab. Rocksmith makes it fun.

There is a Blink 182 song pack going up today. As much as I am not a fan, I have always joked with Mazoo that I could teach her any one of their songs in a day. I might just let Rocksmith do it while I sit back and laugh and their 3 chord hilarity.

Seriously, just import man. The PS3 version is the way to go anyway thanks to sound config options, so it's region free city.

They released a new song pack - 3 Doors Down. :banghead: :spew:

I'm pretty sure they'll find that the third door down the hall is actually the shitter. I'm fucking embarassed that I've seen those hack jobs live. It's a memory I can't burn from my skull.

Saw a badly translated European article stating that Rocksmith will be shown off for the first time over there end of this month, with a release date of September 27th! That's a whole year later! Still no guarantee that we're bundled in with that, but you'd imagine so.

Now I'm extra glad I imported.

$3 or $4 each, or $8 for some of the three packs.

They've officially confirmed Septemeber for Europe. Still no word on if that includes us. It is supposed to contain some additional exclusive content though.

Last year, Rocksmith was certainly an underdog when it launched amidst a swarm of AAA blockbusters, and roughly a year after the “collapse” of the music gaming genre. We gushed over the intuitive guitar tutor disguised as a game, and while we aren’t allowed to disclose the exact sales figures, it’s safe to say the Rocksmith devs are thrilled with what they’ve been able to accomplish. Following our conversations at E3, we know Rocksmith has been a success for Ubisoft – despite having not yet launched in Europe or Japan. (In October, both Bass and Guitar launch worldwide, including the delayed PC versions.)

This year, Rocksmith adds support for bass guitar slingers and novices alike. This is a comprehensive DLC expansion pack; much more than bass charts added to the existing game. It’s truly a new title: Rocksmith for bass.

To begin with, Rocksmith Bass contains support for every on-disc track, and every piece of DLC released to date, totaling about 120 songs, boasting the dynamic difficulty which sets the title apart from upcoming competitors like BandFuse. (Stay tuned for our preview of that title as well.)

Beyond just the music, the expansion has all the video tutorials you’ve grown accustomed to, complete with about a dozen technique challenges unique to bass guitar. The Guitarcade mini-games now support bass too – every aspect of the game has been retooled to teach you the new instrument, and it shows. While some may balk at a downloadable piece of content costing $29.99, what’s here is an incredible value if you’re someone who wants to learn the instrument, or an existing amateur who wants to expand their knowledge.

We had a brief private demo at E3 with Nick Bonardi, lead audio designer for Rocksmith. We spent most of the time talking about the team’s success and rifling through menus which demonstrated how the entire game has been redesigned for bass in an earnest way, and not just lazily re-skinned. We did, however, have a chance to strap on a Gibson and play Nirvana’s “Breed.” The experience of playing this weighty, gigantic instrument with the volume cranked up felt even more satisfying than guitar.

As expected, the game adapted to my progression after just a few measures, slowly introducing more notes and strings (including a bend) to the heavy bass riff without overwhelming me. But speaking of overwhelming, let’s hope Ubisoft has an achievement for playing the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s “Higher Ground” note for note!

I asked Nick about Bass guitar bundles this time around, and he responded by saying “Everyone who’s been clamoring for bass are existing bass players who probably already have the equipment.” So it’s not a financially viable option to partner up for a hardware bundle this time, but even if you don’t have a bass you can still use your guitar; the game will simply emulate a 4-string bass and lower your outputted notes by an octave. That said, I recommend wearing headphones so your ears don’t get confused. (By the way, the Rocksmith TrueTone cable will work with your bass guitar, no need for extra cables. In fact, even an acoustic stand-up bass with a pickup will work admirably!)

It needs to be reiterated that this is the full Rocksmith experience for bassists, and not simply bass charts for the existing music. Ubisoft has done an admirable job here, and after seeing what this expansion entails, the near-year wait makes sense.

Rocksmith for Bass releases in October, worldwide, for $29.99 digitally. This also adds support for same-system guitar and bass co-op.

So a chick walks into EB yesterday and asks the knob end working there if he has any Guitar Hero guitars left for sale.

His response: "No, they stopped making Guitar Hero games, so there's nothing new available. There is a game called Rocksmith coming out in a few months though that is very similar so you can probably use one of it's controllers."
