As previously mentioned in the MS summer of sales list, From Dust went up yesty. D/L'd last night but didn't get a chance to play just yet. Very excited to see how this game goes. I've got high hopes mainly because it reminds me of black & white to an extent. Probably be my downfall though a I'll be expecting it to be too much like it. Will post opinions later

Not sure whether to get on PC or Xbox. Usually I'd say PC but I don't think it will make a big difference with this and PC version is delayed

Seems that PC gamers will have to get used to Ubisoft’s online DRM yet again. Earlier today we’ve informed you that Driver: San Francisco will require a permanent internet connection. Well, get ready because the much anticipated God game, From Dust, will also use this always-online DRM. Yeap, you read that right. From Dust will require a permanent internet connection.
This has just been confirmed and is listed in the game’s Steam Page. Under its details, we can see that the game features Ubisoft’s Online Service as a 3rd party requirement.
Moreover, GetGamesGo‘s box art states that the game needs a permanent internet connection. And in case – for whatever reason – you didn’t trust them, GreenManGaming has information that the game will require high speed internet access to play online. Here is the catch however, the game doesn’t support any kind of MP mode so why did they include such information?
There is a possibility that GreenManGaming has simply included the ‘general information’ about Ubisoft’s DRM but from what we have gathered so far, it is likely that From Dust will actually use this always-online DRM. We’ve contacted Ubisoft and are waiting for an official answer.
From Dust is scheduled for an August 17th release on the PC.

Its easy to crack that anyway, so it never has bothered me, what gets me though, is that Ubi stopped using it and patched it out of some of their games, but now bring it back in?

Because it's a "success" according to them.

We recently reported on how Driver: San Francisco will require a constant internet connection to play. It’s a controversial measure put in place to defend against piracy, and we don’t like it. We don’t like pirates either, mind.

Ubisoft see the DRM as a success. Speaking to us earlier today, a Ubisoft representative admitted that the developer has seen “a clear reduction in piracy of our titles which required a persistent online connection, and from that point of view the requirement is a success”.

Ubisoft have traditionally been the developer with some of the harshest DRM in the industry. In the games that use their always online “connected services”, players can no longer to play if no internet connection is detected. The publisher first implemented this always-online DRM with Settlers 7. Since then, it’s featured in Silent Hunter V and Assassin’s Creed 2 and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood.

Sadly, legitimate players often take the brunt of such security measures. Intermittent internet connections and server issues at Ubisoft’s end can stop PC Gamers from playing the game entirely. Not cool.

Similarly frustrating measures were also introduced in the recent Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, where offline players were restricted to playing a small selection of the characters. Capcom later withdrew the measures after fan criticism.

I thought as much what is it just a sandbox game or simulation? with no real goal or point?

DRM sucks balls, I'm surprised they keep doing it, the 'always connected' idea is stupid, what happens with lag and bad connection cos of weather, the user is fucked from playing it, due to this.

I love it. It's really a unique approach to a problem solving game. The physics are awesome, I love how the water flows and redirects and so forth. Makes you really think about the consequences of your actions if you block off one part of a river, where will the water go and what will happen. As you progress, more elements are thrown in, like lava, which makes things really interesting as lava turns to solid rock when it cools. The first tsunami I watched roll in was awesomely daunting.

Maybe for 1200MS it might not be everyones idea of a bargain, but I think it's quality and worth the dosh

Very slow to get going and more of a puzzle game than a god game. I'm a bit disappointed about that, but the graphics and water physics keep me playing.
