I had a weird dream just before I woke up, nothing strange there that's what dreams are for... But the last part of it was me getting my hands on a prototype Wii U controller. I'm posting this for posterity cause I want to see how close the dream was to reality. Yes, the forum has become my personal dream diary.

Based on my dream, my prdiction is that the controller seems quite bulky at first. Around the size of an iPad, perhaps a little bigger but much chunkier. No surprises there. It felt very light, lighter than I expected.

Not very comfortable to hold at first, until I had my hands positioned properly - fingers over the rear triggers. Then it seemed to just click. The triggers themselves where smooth in action with nice resistance. The thumb sticks fell naturally under the thumbs, as they should, and ergonomically it just worked. Holding it like this put the screen in a natural viewing position.

My first impression was it's very toy like. Light, plasticky. But more fisher-price (quality) than cheap and cheerful. I realized just how clever this was - if it felt like a high end tablet, "device angst" would click in and you'd be too worried to scratch/bash/drop it and you certainly wouldn't be letting little johny get his hands on it.

The dream ended with that realisation. The overall feeling was one of pleasant surprise. It was a weird dream in the sense that I don't usually dream about video games, and haven't been reading anything about the Wii u in particular recently.

I realize a lot of what was in the dream is based on stuff thats already out there about the Wii u. I'd be interested to hear what others thoughts are on how the controller will feel. And interested to see how close I am when the thing finally gets released.

Sounds like you'll be pretty spot on Blue, though I question how natural feeling that controller will be. Light and plastic is what I'm already guessing, and Nintendo a generally pretty good at making these awkward looking controllers of theres strangely usable.

We shall see...

I keep seeing it and thinking about how awkward it is playing games with 2 analogue type controls on the iPad, as that how it looks like it'd feel to me. I know its nothing like and would possibly play surprisingly well......hmm, dunno. I did like the fact that aliens: colonial marines was possibly using the controller screen as the motion detector :)
