Activision recently announced the upcoming Transformers: Fall of Cybertron from High Moon Studios, where we’ll be getting gratuitous amounts of Dinobots, but they have also recently unveiled incoming Insecticons and Decepticon higher-up Shockwave will be playing a big role in the story.

Not only that, we’re likely going to see Devastator made up of Constructicons, because YESSSSSSSSSSS! Probably some spoilers underneath here.

Graphics are apparently amazing this time around. Alpha build looks like a finished War for Cybertron already.
More varied environment. Players will travel a ruined and broken Cybertron during bright daylight as well as night. Some battlefields will be very wide and open.
Many more enemies onscreen. Optimus Prime seen holding back a whole horde of Decepticons with a turret.
Multiplayer to feature deeper customization options, including interchangeable armor parts and more varied color options for both robot and vehicle modes.
Abilities are far more important in the single-player mode.
Optimus Prime and Megatron getting visually overhauled. Optimus looks more like his G1 version, while Megatron has spiky, Energon-infused armor.
Story has Decepticons overrunning Cybertron.
One mission sees Jazz using a wrist-mounted grappling hook to zip across various access points, similar to Spider-Man in recent games.
Shockwave to play a key role.
Dinobots are screwed around with by Shockwave, explaining why they already turn into dinosaurs. The Insecticons revealed as another of Shockwave’s experiments.
Concept art shows Grimlock fighting an army of Kickbacks, Shrapnels and Bombshells, implying that the Insecticons’ cloning ability will create swarms of generic enemies to fight.
Starscream has a price put on his head by the Decepticons and accidentally frees the Dinobots while escaping Cybertron.
Grimlock is a playable character. Unlike other characters, his style is almost entirely focused on melee. His transformation is apparently quite painful to watch, describe as resembling Bruce Banner turning into the Hulk. He fights with his barbed tail, fire breath, and bites.
Metroplex, the huge Autobot city, will be playable. He can step on squads of Decepticons.
All five of the Combaticons will be playable and yes, they will form to create BRUTICUS, BITCH!
Prime can call orbital strikes, possibly from Metroplex.

OH HELLS YES!!! :optimus:

An interesting preview can be found HERE

I don't care what they say, a lack of co-op blows goats. :(

There's also a heap of new screenshots HERE

Some highlights...

Dinobots!!!

Well, Slag and Swoop rock up with Grimlock anyway. Why is it so bloody difficult for them to have all five together these days? Sludge is an original for shits sake and Snarl is like the great unwashed. Pretty sure he snuck into one tiny scene in the animated movie by accident.

Demo went up on Live and PSN the last couple of days. Anyone tried it yet? I've downloaded both to see how they go. Have the first one on PS3 and loved the multi in it (the first game to show me the peace and sensibility of PSN randoms).

I have much to say about this one....

Firstly, the campaign levels in the demo are friggen awesome. It really got me hungry to play these games again. So hungry that I cracked out the original, but more on that in a second.

If there was on thing that stood out as odd to me though was the way in which the Ark came across as some sort of tiny lifeboat in Bumblebee's level. This is the fucking Ark for shit's sake, and here's a Decepticon ship that looks about 3 times it's size with giant tentacles ripping the shit out of it!?!? I hope that's just a misconception on my behalf, just that just doesn't seem to sit right.

What was noticeably missing was the multiplayer campaign. We also know that instead of having both an Autobot and Decepticon campaign, they've mixed them together for the sake of narrative. I can't say I agree with any of this. Did they replace their writers with some fan-fiction n00bs, or could they just not be fucked? It's not that hard to keep 3 or 4 Transformers together through each of the levels, because fuck, IT HAPPENS IN ABOUT EVERY TRANSFORMER STORY EVER!!! Also, why would I want to play a level as one side, advancing my cause, and then play the next level working against myself??? WFC was easily the best Transformers game ever, High Moon have shown their capabilities to their own chagrin, and now this just demonstrates laziness and a push to get this out the door.

Which leads me to the actual multiplayer...

Are they fucking kidding? How often do you see games go backwards? Well here's one! For starters, the graphics on the PS3 are broken. They're blurry and almost seem low-res. This isn't the case in the campaign, both varsions are fairly comparable, and WFC was pretty much identical too, but this is just a sloppy effort of immense proportions. If this is just a glitch, it's big enough that you would never consider showing it off.

The characters... In WFC, you had a chassis for Autobot and a seperate one for Decepticon. You could pick from a few characters and then change their primary and secondary colours from a reasonable selection. In this one, you can actually pick and choose parts to build your own Transformer. Cool! That one Transformer is then your character for both sides, just with a different colour scheme. WTF!?!? Yep, a pack of Megatrons running around as brightly coloured Autobots, and a bunch of purple Decepticon Optimus Prime's.... The colour combinations are even pre-chosen, you just need to pick from their large range of shittily mixed colour combo's.

Then there's the special abilities and what I guess you could call "perks". Pretty much close to gone. Dumbed right down. Made for monkeys.

I'll be all over this at release just to play the campaign, but yesterday I bought WFC off Live for a piddly $30 and got back into the multiplayer of that, since the 360 still has tons of players on it, and I'm sure the half priced character and map packs have something to do with that (WTF PSN???). I love the multi in this game, and I'm betting everyone will come back to it after they've had a sniff of how much the new one is lacking.

It seems the PS3 graphics issues are actually a bug that isn't affecting everyone. They claim to be working on it, so I'll give them benefit of the doubt on that one for now.

I've been playing WFC multi alot this week, and to jump back into this demo and try it again, it's painfuly obvious how shit and lacking it now is. You feel like a robot with options and an identity in the first one, that's all gone in the new one. I didn't even realise what team I was on when I fired it up again, because I was Bumblee shooting at Autobots. Fucking stupid.

Today is the day! Who's getting? I went 360 for this one, since there's no guarantee on the PS3 graphics fix and I wanted the pre-order stuff. Must have Swoop!

Seems the reviews are backing up my critisisms though. Brilliant game that has been confusingly watered down in options that were all present in the previous game.

One of the better reviews.

Not yet, but considering there's already 5 characters up as DLC, who the fuck knows how long that will take.

Sounds of my lack of faith was a good judgment call.

It's a shame that the PlayStation 3 version struggles to keep up with that excess. At times, Fall of Cybertron is a technical mess on Sony's console: square pixels sometimes erupt where there should be sparks, loading times occur in the middle of the action, and the game may even lock up and require you to restart the system. The resolution is noticeably lower than on the Xbox 360, and textures are so blurry that you could momentarily wonder if a higher-res texture has yet to pop in. The frame rate isn't perfectly steady on the Xbox 360, but it keeps pace better than the PS3 version, which chugs more frequently.

There's no excuse for this. WFC was near identical on both consoles.

Lens of Truth have done a Head2Head, and you can see some of the PS3 issues at play.

Fall of Cybertron Comparison

To be honest though, the campaign differences are not so noticable during play. Take the most blurry shots there though, make them a little worse, and you have the multiplayer ALL THE TIME. Utterly busted.

While I'm enjoying the campaign so far, I'm not enjoying it as much as I should. Know why? Dinobots! Grimlock is teased right from the start of Chapter 2, and I'm really just pushing through because I want me some fucking Dinobots!!! The one Transformer who can make me not give a shit about the coolness of playing as Optimus Prime is Grimlock and they KEEP FRIGGEN TAUNTING ME!!!!

Rather irritated about one tiny thing though. Seems that despite my previous rant about the constant fobbing of Slag, it appears it is Sludge who is getting the arse from this game. Announced Dinobot DLC yesterday confirms it. That's not the annoying bit though. It seems that the whole planet must conform to the British taking offence at a character whose name is a derogatory term for a female, and we must all call him Slug instead. That's right up there with the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles.

I am also thoroughly enjoying using Swoop in multiplayer. Not just because he's a fucking awesome Dinobot, but because the silly yanks didn't get him as a pre-order bonus so they therefore assume that you must be a mad hacker. You get extra time to kill them as they stare in jealousy at your awesomeness.

BTW, playing as a Dinobot makes you forget all the lacking multi options.

Performance wise, even the Live demo seemed a little down on the final product. Regardless, if you liked WFC then you know what to expect from the campaign for this one, and it's rather epic. The levels are created more for the speciic characters because you don't have a choice anymore, but there is ultimately no other way of experiencing something as mind blowingly awesome as fighting alongside Metroplex. The two levels in the demo are the very first Autobot level, and the very first Decepticon level, which I have only just gotten up to in the full game. They are the small fry.

Full Analysis from Lens of Truth

I'm loving firing up this game for a multi. There's a lot of depth in play styles and team work with the different options of classes and upgrades. Conquest and Headhunter work really well.

Last night, the Dinobot DLC was unleashed. Multi was full of dinosaurs and it was fantastic! There was a point in a game of Conquest were the team came together and realised we were the full Dinobot team, had a moment of giddy happiness, and then stormed the enemy capture point as one rampaging herd of destruction. Worth every cent.
