Companions, followers, comrades, whatever you may call them, they are characters that are attached to another character of yours in a way or another. Completely optional, the ability to have them is just in case someone wants to roleplay with a specific dynamic or want to play a character that otherwise can't really take a leading roll themselves. Companions are not restricted to people who follow your lead character around either. They can also be characters whom they frequently interact with or can summon, or perhaps a unit of soldiers under their command as opposed to a singular individual. For the sake of simplicity, companions will be referred to as a singular individual for the rest of the guideline. For many members of Outer Heaven, systems including companions was a hot point of contention and thus the ability to utilize the ability to have companions will be treated as a privilege instead of a right. Improper use of the system (listed below) will begin to require heavier requisites towards having a companion. This can include requiring proof of the lead character and companion interacting with each other in-character on the RP before allowing them as a companion, a form to fill out to justify the characters banding together, and in extreme cases, the refusal to allow continued use of companions or retroactively removing companions from their characters. Some characters (i.e. Sam and Max, Squid Sisters or Off the Hook, etc) can come in a pair instead of alone. For logical examples such as the examples given, they don't have to be considered a companion. Alternate Universe versions of characters or companions must be approved by BOTH staff and any people who may hold the ownership of the regular version of the character. Much like lead characters, exceptions to this rule include situations like Male/Female-Paragon/Renegade Shepard from Mass Effect, or the Male/Female Robin from Fire Emblem: Awakening. More questionable or gray examples will be handled on case-by-case bases. Listed below are examples of improper use of companions. Doing or attempting to do anything listed here will result in a stern-talking to, among other unpleasant things.
