Wii Shop Channel Update; Gift Giving all around... your country.

With the release of Pokémon Snap in the USA and, amnazingly, PAL territories as well, the Wii Shop Channel has been updated with an impressive new Channel icon and gift giving functions. It seems Nintendo is betting on the Christmas Bandwagon for people to buy Virtual Console gifts as a means to promote the service to those who aren't terribly interested in the feature.

The flipside of this is, if the person has already download the game you're trying to send as a gift, it'll simply bounce back and you won't lose your points. The downside, however, is that the service is COUNTRY locked, as Nintendo has opted the path of restricting the service to users of the same country. :\

Aww man, that means I can't send them to you since you don't live in the U.S.

BTW, did you add me yet to your Wii address book? I haven't added you yet, but I will ASAP.

That is correct Mushroom Boy. I was actually going to start a monthly gift promotion since I'm feeling really generous in the matter, but Nintendo have once again shot down another brilliant Idea thanks to their narrow mindedness. I guess I can still do it with my Aussie Friends though...

Please PM me in regards to the Wii Codes though...

Oh too bad, i really wanted to surprise my cousins in the U.S. but that wouldn't have happened...i can't get Wii points here in El Salvador so i have to set it to U.S.

I have an idea so you can give them games as gifts, all you should do is change your location in Wii settings, i did that to get the internet channel and it worked. Oh well...

I hate how they region lock these features. It undermines Nintendo's assertion that the Wii has truly worldwide features, and can connect people globally, through technology. A simillar thing hapened to the Metroid Prime 3 points too.

That's true, how can they be talking about connecting people worldwide if someone in a country no one knows so well can't connect to meet new friends by playing with them? When i had the Wi-fi internet i saw how many games they were launching for VC, but when i tried to get Wii Points the channel said there was no service for El Salvador yet, so we had to change the region to the U.S.

Thanks to the wonders of Region locking, any console sold in Europe/Australia is NOT able to select any NTSC country, including the USA. This also works in reverse too; American consoles will not be able to select countries like the United Kingdom or Japan either. Nintendo is continuously releasing new functions, but terribly complicates and restricts their systems in this way.... and worst of all, there is NOTHING you can do about it unless you import a foreign region console; not a very cheap or easy alternative.

Cerina: That's rather unusual. I understand Nintendo UK did announce Pokémon Snap for this Fridat, but it's already out in Australia. Try having a peek and see if it's already up there. :P

I've checked... like everyday XD Its on the webpage that its out this friday as well when I was buying the Mario cap CD rack, need to go back there and order the bracelet and Peach keychain. They wouldn't release it on the same day as the USA get it as well, only 'major' titles get that privilege :(

I bet this was done because of compatibility problems, PAL games can't be played in NTSC consoles.
