I say "lol" and stuff a lot when I am in RL. Mostly if people tell jokes that are not funny to me, which is pretty often. I never got hit for it and I actually know several other people also doing so.

Chat speak is what is killing society. Children think it's part of their vocabulary, and use it in everyday talking, and I've had enough of it.
