Well, I'm from and live in the suburb of New Orleans, so I'm fucking psych'd about it.

As for it being a new game vs. DLC, can you be serious? Valve is a game comapny that needs money, something that is pretty scarce in today's economy. Since when did we ask a game company for a game and a half? If it was any other company, it'd have been done the day it shipped, save a few graphics and bug fixes. DLC can be profitable, if you charge for it, which Valve doesn't, and thus it is fiscally unsound for them to release gigabytes of professional new content for free. It's a blessing that they're doing it for TF2, and is something a lot of people take for granted.

Since it's in New Orleans, I will laugh if there's a Campaign based off the Hurricane Katrina destruction

No, just no.

I'm going to buy it, probably, but if it's anything less than a true step up from the original, I'm going to complain a whole lot more.

I think Valve realized that L4D had little to truly offer when it came to variety. That's the real reason they rushed to make the second.

Balls.
It sucks them.
Seriously, the only reason I got L4D in the first place was because of the storyline, and then, on the rooftop of the hospital, in the dev commentary I get another "We scratched the storyline because the GAMETESTERS didn't understand it very well." Fucking testers fucking it up. Fuckers.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFuck L4D. Worst 50 bucks ever wasted.

Huh, maybe we mean paid DLC?
Of course Valve needs to make money, like any other company, but they have the best-selling FPS franchise of all - Half-Life. Half-Life and Half-Life 2 are the two FPS best-sellers. If all other companies can continue to publish FPS's and get good profit, then Valve doesn't have any problem surviving today's economy. The only two FPS franchises that can thrive in this economy are Call of Duty and Half-Life, so Valve isn't exactly having any problems.
The problem with Left 4 Dead 2 is that we're talking about a sequel to an one-year-old game whose basis is cooperative play. Releasing a sequel instead of new content, even if paid, for the original game is just milking the cow, and it'll very likely lead to less activity on the first game.
