Apparently the 48fps isn't going down well. WB screens 10 minutes of The Hobbit in 48fps at CinemaCon.
http://badassdigest.com/2012/04/24/cinemacon-2012-the-hobbit-underwhelms-at-48-frames-per-secon/ More impressions:
https://twitter.com/#!/colliderfrosty:
https://twitter.com/#!/slashfilm:
https://twitter.com/#!/slashfilm Naturally it's very different from gaming in terms of higher framerate actually being better I had a bad feeling this would happen. Can see it being the future of docs but not feature films, maybe animation & cgi too. The whole point of the preview to theatre owners was to try and convince them into buying the new tech needed to display the 48fps version. But none of them came out impressed. So not sure if we'll end up seeing the format of the film, unless improved greatly. On a positive note they did all say the actual scenes they saw were great. Just the fps change ruined the presentation. |

Well that's disappointing At least they have plenty of time to adjust things or scrap the fps rate completely.

Jackson responds to the complaints: http://insidemovies.ew.com/2012/04/27/peter-jackson-responds-hobbit/ Apparently after time some of the initial crictics began to change their mind on the 48fps and got used to it. |

Only thing about hearing how they got used to it is how can you get used to sets looking like sets and costumes looking like costumes. I can understand if you just get used to how it looks and everything but when people are saying how everything looks fake then i don't know how you can get used to that. We'll see. In PJ we trust. |

I see your point quinters but i guess it's just the fact it's such a huge change as we've been with 24 fps since the dawn of films so our eyes have just never seen anything like it before on video. Hopefully it's just an adjustment and not a more permanent issue. |

I saw this last week. It's called milking it for every last penny it can provide. In a few years they'll release the Silmarillion in 10 parts. |

I'm fine with this because of the reasons PJ provided. I'm more than happy knowing that he's just trying to fit all the content in and tell the best stories involved possible. Sure he could fuck it up, but i trust him well enough. He never failed with the rings trilogy. You have to remember it took them nearly 10 years to get the hobbit trilogy off the ground and over a year to film it. It's not like they've just knocked these out. After the huge success of the lotr trilogy they could have done them back then right after but choice to wait until the script and timing was right. You can't fault the teams commitment and effort to make the best possible version. I wish people wouldn't judge before they've seen anything. It's just petty. What i have seen from the first movie trailer was fantastic and the same was said from people who saw the 10 minute comic-con footage. Release date is Summer 2014 FYI. So half a year after the 2nd one. As for the Silmarillion. PJ got asked that question at comic-con. Won't ever happen because The Tolkien family own the full rights to it, unlike New-Line who own the filming and media rights to lotr and the hobbit. As much as i'm sure they'd all love to make it, and as much as fans would geek over it. It won't ever happen because the Tolkien family are not on particularly good terms with the folk behind the lotr and hobbit franchises. They want to keep what last book they have pure, without hollywood treatment. Which is understandable. |

^ What sib said. Although i do see and understand why some people are mad about this. On the outside looking in it can easily look like a cash cow money grab. But i've always seen wignut films and the fact it's all produced over in new zealand as different from the usual holiday money grabbing. Plus it's not like we've not already seen what they can do, with lotr and what we've seen so far from these movies. |

The lotr movies were ok. Most of the story was held true (the considerable hiccup at Helm's Deep notwithstanding) and by using the Alan Lee illustrations for reference they kept the spirit of the novels intact for the most part. However, I was not impressed by their casting choices for the hobbits. They splashed out on the rest of the cast so why not go the whole hog and get 4 guys who can coordinate their accents. After all, they all were born and raised in the same little valley albeit a little out of town for the Brandybucks - of which Frodo was also a member until Bilbo adopted him. The exclusion of Tom Bombadil, Goldberry, Old Man Willow and the barrow wights was understandable as it would have made Fellowship even longer and more boring than it was already. However, cutting out the scouring of the Shire was completely unforgivable in my book. It may have added an hour to the last movie but it tied up all the loose ends about Saruman's connection to the Shire and bridged Sam's relationship with Rosy Cotton perfectly. Instead Saruman was an impotent fool and the Shire folk just accepted the young Hobbits' return without question. So I'm not overly convinced I'll be impressed by the Hobbit as it is even closer to my heart than lotr and Jackson has not got a great track record thus far. |

The scouring of the Shire would have ruined the tone of the end of the movie, which is why it was shown through galadriels vision of what could happen. I guess since you're one of the few who's not happy with the whole previous trilogy then i understand why you're not convinced here

Damn it Simon! With your balanced and moderate response you made me look like an unreasonable flame thrower here! Oh wait, I am - Never mind. I'm sure the films will be entertaining at least. Edited by Seej, Jul 31 2012, 01:42 PM.
