I-isn't it on tonight (Monday)? Either that or I've missed it! Crap. Anyway, what was my point here? Oh yes, I was going to just say that, in my opinion, the quality of a "non wordy" script can range dramatically, and often in place of character driven dialogue and what not, there tends to be strong storylines or fast camera work or pacing... which I think Law and Order has enough of to compensate. I agree, though, the script, if you peer at it, is dull, incredibly dull... but with the distractions of the acting/camera work/unraveling plot, there's enough there to make up for it. I think anyway. |

sorry I didn't mean to sound bossy or anything, when I said that I was just meaning in terms of character development, from episode 1 it's hard to tell whether it'll go anywhere.... and... from my POV, in the 2nd episode we've just watched, it did. I liked the 1st one, but this was miles better! Perfect acting, tone, pace, dialogue. Reeeeally good IMO! what did everyone else think? Edited by j e n. j e n, Mar 2 2009, 10:08 PM.

Can I just venture to ask: why the frak can't Jamie Bamber do a decent British accent when he is British? His acting is good, but that awful mockney accent takes me right out of every scene he's in. Is he trying to blend in with Bradley Walsh (who is my favourite thing about this show right now)? I liked this episode. No, no, actually, I loved it, pretty much. It was much better put together than last weeks effort, Bill Paterson slightly unnerved me with his badass'ness (giving those boxes a good kicking!), that little boy Jono's performance made me sympathise with a murderer, and, gosh, I really liked his defense lawyer, she was good. There was a line I really liked, but I can't remember it, the woman who asked Bamber's character "Do you always smell so minty?" or something, perfectly timed bit of comedy amongst all the angst. He's really so good looking compared to everyone else, I mean, Freema and others are extremely attractive, but there's something about him that just screams American tv looks! Is it just me? Aahh, probably. I think I'm just jealous. |

I'll be incredibly surprised if the people who hated episode 1 didn't like this installment, because that was brilliant But, it should be interesting to see what they think?
Thank you Erica, I appreciate your concerns and you being nice about it, I realise I may have over reacted, but I really didn't intend to offend anyone!
But they are both unfolding stories, it doesn't matter if it's told in the form of writing or screenplay, it's a story, either way, but they are both written differently. A book can't be conveyed on screen in the same way, there isn't enough time. That's what I meant.
And maybe you're being overly sensitive towards what I said. BeautifulDawn, I don’t know why you’re making this about you. I was talking to Mark. I'm not stopping anyone from having opinions that challenge mine, I just was asking why. If I can't ask that then how can this be a discussion? You can't bite someone's head off the minute they ask you to expand on your point. Edited by hidden_locket, Mar 3 2009, 07:02 PM.

To me the only interesting part of the show when the case is handed over to the prosecutors is Bill Paterson, I'm always disappointed when it's handed over and we don't see Bradley Walsh any more. |

I love this programme, and Bill in it. His character is very much like how he was in Criminal Justice, in that grumpy way He's such a convincing actor.Bradley Walsh is a revalation, and I agree, the first police bits are the hightlight (other than scenes with Bill, though I hope he'll feature more in upcoming episodes?) |

Haha, word! His accent is really odd, but I put it down to him working on BSG for so many years with all those American's/Canadian's. My sister lived in American for several years and her accent is a little lost now. Plus, I'm sure in interviews I've heard his actual English accent is different from that on the show. It's not cockney, it's quite posh. And I know, right? That little boy was such a powerful performer, he held his scenes so fantastically.
Aw, don't worry, I don't think anyone is offended here. Maybe just a misunderstanding between posts. |

Jen that's quite alright, though I stand by what I said, I think perhaps my post was easily misinterpreted as being too sour faced, when I hadn't meant it to be. You don't sound bossy, no worries.
Quite. But it only works one way? You can challenge our points of view over the first episode, but we can't challenge yours? As I may pointedly remind you, hidden_locket, I said in my earliest post that it was early days and the series may pick up, though I stand by my views on the first episode, the second was a vast improvement, and I very much enjoyed it. So now that we're in agreement, can't we drop the silly bickering! |

But... no one is saying it's a book, I'm completely confused about where this book idea has come from! You said it's not like a novel, and therefore we shouldn't complain that it's not wordy, I said no one had said it was or should be like a book... I'm not arguing with you that books and tv show scripts are different because obviously they are, but it's not as simplistic as that. It's not as if a script can't be wordy without turning into a book. That's a bizarre argument
What...? I'm not making it about me, I just didn't want to speak on behalf of Mark, since, whether you mean to or not, what you were saying was directed at both of us, since I'm arguing the same point as Mark. So, I spoke my POV on it. That's not "making it all about me". |

Errr, I hope I'm not causing a real 'argument' in this topic. I'm not meaning to. I just have opposing views which people seem to agree with now anyway, so why there's still a spat going on I don't understand... ![]() I'm not trying to offend anyone or even HAVE an argument, I just had (previously when several people disliked L and O) a different view. It's like forum politics, and since I'm relatively new (not by register date, but by the fact I don't 'mingle' here often other than to talk about SoS actor projects or SoS, rather than being in the off topic threads where you get to know eachother) I'm not in the inner circle of friends here and so I'm seen as being 'against' everyone who is
lol, ok, I admit I've lost the thread of that metaphor as well. Err, basically I'm saying you're expecting too much of a plot driven show. Not all shows can be wordy, if they are they can't be fast paced and deal a whole trial within 1hr of viewing.
Yeah but you made out as if I was attacking your points which I wasn't, regardless of whether yours are the same as Mark's, I was picking up on his points and not yours, so my comments were directed at him, not you. Even so, I wasn't attacking Mark either, if I'm coming across as annoyed then that's unintentional and I apologise. I don't want to fight, you know! I'm not a troll, this is a debate! So why can't I just have my views heard and leave it at that??
No, no. That's not what I'm saying. It's how debate works, but that's not what's happening here. Unless I'm misinterperating everything you and BeautifulDawn are saying.Hurray, I'm glad you enjoyed the next episode!! I'm not trying to bicker or be silly, I just wanted to defend my points and ask why you and BeautifulDawn didn't like the first episode. In that sense your thoughts on the 2nd are irrelevent, because the original subject was the 1st, and we were drawing our conclusions (mine positive, yours negative) from that.Anyway, I don't want to argue about this. Misunderstandings are silly. |

hidden_locket, I don't think that's true, this is one of the friendliest forums I've ever come across, no one should feel left out here, and no one is stopping you from hanging out in the Ramble Topic and getting to know everyone !! I've been away quite a lot recently, but whenever I come back I find things are just as open and friendly as they were before. Why don't you post in the Ramble topic and we can all get to know each other ? I don't think there's an ' inner circle ' here at all, obviously some posters are more regular than others, and if they post in the off topic threads and share things about their lives then surely it's only natural ( and nice ! ) that they get to know and like each other more ! But we're all SoS fans here, we're all friends !
