I finished this chapter earlier today and since it seems like we're getting onto the slightly better to understand parts, it was much easier for me to really get into it and I ended up reading to the end of chapter 3. With the beginning parts I was taking a lot of breaks and it was a bit of a struggle to stay focused, but it's much better now. Again with this chapter it mentioned a few things that I knew a tiny bit about from other books/things I've seen around the Internet. So it's nice to get to know even more information about the things I've seen in passing. I especially like how we're learning about the different types of Elves now. I've tried learning about them on my own before and reading about them in this context is just so much easier to remember. Also, after finishing this part, I was just flipping through the book and noticed that towards the end there's a section about pronunciation of words, so I think that's going to become very helpful as we read on because I'm sure I've not been reading some things correctly! My notes: Page 1 Page 2 |

So, I've been a bit behind, as I left my borrowed copy of the book at my parent's home (I go away to school) and was only just able to buy a copy yesterday. My notes for Ainudlindale and Valaquenta are hardly legible, so I won't worry about posting them on the other threads. I have to agree with what Ashley said about this chapter being easier to understand. The content was much simpler to comprehend in comparison to the last two parts, which allowed me to have a much more enjoyable reading experience. I loved that this chapter ended with a bit of a description of the facets of the men and elves' existence in Middle Earth. Similarly to what Ashley mentioned, I was also thoroughly excited that the book is now delving into the different types of elves. These are my notes: Part 1 Part 2 |

I am rather relieved that this chapter is a "real", story-like narration and that it is way easier to read. Reminder, I read it in French, and the translation is lighter than the first two chapters. There is nothing I didn't understand here, and I gave up taking notes unless it is about things I do not know, otherwise I would end up rewriting the book. It is a strange style but still nice to read, and I'm looking forwards to the rest of it! The chapters are indeed quite short. |

I'm so excited the interesting story part of the book is finally beginning! I try not taking so much notes anymore but I'm sure I will at some point be very counfused because of the different elves... whenever I read anything about them I was all ???ยด__`?? and didn't get too much. But maybe the silmarillion explains it better than the internet :D |
