Stress and Fighting This is it, I thought gloomily, today's the day they come. After a night of worry and fright, I was ready to get this over with. I could tell every one else was too. I didn't bother much with appearances, I just threw on white washed jeans, a tee and a cropped jean jacket. I sighed heavily. I was ready to finish this problem. I never wanted the Volturi in Forks ever again. I wanted to know that Charlie was safe, I wanted to know that Renesme was safe, above all the rest, I wanted to know my family was safe. Especially Edward. Edward came up behind me during my reverie and hugged me. Even without knowing what I was thinking, he could make a good guess. "I know, love. It will all be over soon. Alice is pretty sure that nothing will go awry. Then we'll come to the bigger problem. Where are we going to move to? I still think the tropics would be a good change." I sighed again. "Right. Jacob. I honestly have no idea what we're going to do about him. Let's focus on the problem at hand. We should probably get back to the house to hear what the game plan is." I turned in his arms and I saw his wary smile. "Right," I said, standing on my tip toes to reach him. "Let's get this over with," I finished, twining my fingers in his hair. I pressed my lips to his with the strangest feeling of fear and worry sinking into my every pore. But that was on the back burner, in a way. My focus was on Edward. I was so aware of him. Electricity buzzed through me so sporadically, I knew he could feel it too. But then we had to go. We ran hand in hand back to the house and through the front yard. I could see everyone through the windows and everyone was dressed and ready to go meet the Volturi. I had already told Charlie to stay out of the forest and everything was ready. Carlisle and Emmett were deep in conversation and Emmet, as always, had a huge smile on his face. He could always find the humor in anything bad, evil, sad, or otherwise deadly in some form. I heard their conversation as though they were standing next to me, even though we were in the front yard, by the huge oak that shaded nearly half of the yard. Carlisle began, "We should probably leave to meet them soon. Alice said that they would arrive near noon. It's already 9 o'clock." "I'd like to see the looks on their faces if we didn't show," Emmett grinned. I bit back a growl. He knew the danger that that would ensue. Especially to everyone human in Forks. Edward soothed me, "It's okay, it was only a stupid idea. You know how many of those Emmett comes up with a month," he said, smiling. Emmett, of course, barked a quick laugh and returned to his conversation. "Where are we meeting them anyway?" he asked "The same place as last time." Of course the same place as the last time. Nearly everything that was pivotal happened there. James spotting me, Renesme being threatened, and of course, now this. "So, basically, we leave right now with everyone, plus 15 wolves?" Emmett put it, point blank. "Yes, basically." "Then let's go kick some Volturi butt!" he shouted with a huge smile. We ran to the clearing and waited. And waited. And waited. "Oh come on!" Emmett exclaimed, "What's taking so long?!?!?!" "Here they come now," Edward whispered. Renesme remembered the Volturi and shuddered beside me. I hugged he to my side as Jacob whimpered. He didn't like anything that scared her. Finally, they broke out from the trees, like last time, but much smaller. Aro still hoped that Alice would join the Volturi, I'd bet anything. I spread my shield out over my family and hoped that I wouldn't need to make it tangible. My favorite thing about this was the fact that Aro didn't know how I've grown and if he was frightened this time, I could imagine it this time. I nearly laughed at the face I pictured him making when he found out how much I've developed my gift. Carlisle was obviously relieved that he didn't bring the whole guard this time. "Aro, my dear friend! Has it already been seven years since I saw you? It felt like it was only yesterday!" he laughed and walked forward a few feet. "The feeling is mutual, dear Carlisle," Aro said in his whisper of a voice. He glanced at me before saying, "I trust that you've all been well?" "Correct. Bella has improved her gift ten fold." I nearly cracked up when I saw Aro blanch. I looked over at Edward, and saw his lips pressed together, fighting back a laugh. Emmett, however, didn't try to stop his laughter. His amusement rang out over the field, leaving Aro looking kinda POed and the rest of us, and the guard fighting back a smile. Carlisle turned toward me, smiling politely, "Bella, would you like to show him a bit of the new things you can do?" "Yes, I would love to, actually." I smirked and made my shield tangible and see able. Aro gasped and looked like he would faint. The guard showed looks of awe and fear. Even Marcus looked slightly interested. Aro's face was even whiter when I changed it to form around each person I desired it to. It showed everyone's aura. Carlisle was white, Edward was amber, Emmett was hunter's green, Rosalie was a beautiful silk red, the wolves were of course, brown, and Renesme was a pale pink. I couldn't see my aura, but I knew it was lilac. But he was the palest of pales when I formed shield guards with ever changing auras. There were maybe fifty of my guards and Aro couldn't believe his eyes. Jane was incredulous, realizing that she couldn't harm anyone and that she would be an easy target if it came to a fight. I glanced at Edward, and I wondered if showing Aro my skills was right. |
